  1. Let me answer the Arctic Refesh question. I have an Arctic Glacier Signature that I got in late July. My wife and I use the tub 3 to 5 times a week. When I get out each time I use 1 tablespoon of Arctic Refresh. You will need to use more refresh if you have more bathers about 1/2 tablespoon per each bather. Turn both pumps on and add Arctic Refresh than after about 2 minutes I shut both pumps off. Then I engage the Boost mode by pushing down on pump 2 until I see BOO on the LCD read out. I leave the cover off for about 20 to 25 minutes and then close the cover. On Sunday I put 1 cap full of Arctic refresh and run boost mode. When you are running boost mode both the Onzen system is on and pump 1 runs on high speed for 45 minutes. ALso you have to be careful and not use to much Refresh as the salt in the sytem will amplify the oxidizing effect. Refresh is a non chlorine oxidzer and you need to use it after each use to burn off the bad stuff in the tub. That is the reason you are seeing almost zero free chlorine. The Onzen user guide from Arctic is missing a lot of information and more useful information needs to be added so users like us can understand and maintain the Onzen system with better confidence.
  2. Stuck with chlorine??? I thought Onzen made bromine? So you can put different salts in it? Thanks for the comments about Arctic. I think from comments here and friends who know about Arctic, we made the right choice. BTW - our cement slab is being poured today...YEAH!!! 12' x 15' just off our wooden deck. What I should of said is that I stayed with chlorine.... It was late at night after relaxing in my Arctic.
  3. Congrats on your Arctic purchase. I live on the other side of the state in Spokane. Replaced my 9 year old Apollo spa and since it was just my wife and I purchased a Glacier Signature with Onzen that was delivered in late July. I bet you are getting you Arctic from Apollo also. Stuck with chlorine so the only difference is in the salt you put in. I understand that the owner of Apollo likes Bromine and his people recommend it. To answer your question is Arctic Spa is really worth your money is YES.. On question 4 the Onzen system is not expensive to maintain. In fact it's easy to use. All I do when my wife and I get out is use Arctic Refresh about 1 tbls per user. I have gone on vacation for 7 days and before I leave shocked the tub with Arctic refresh and check the chlorine levels when I got back and it was like i hadn't left. With just the wife and I I'm running the Onzen system only 4 hours a day. On the weekends when we use the tube morning and night I run the onzen 8 hours a day. Your salesman said you could get the salt from Costco ummmm I wouldn't do it. Tom if your reading this please add your thoughts on the salt. You will probably get test strips in your start up kit. Personally I hate em. When I had my old tub used a Taylor test kit for testing chlorine and PH. But to get a more accurate reading for both free, and also total chlorine and also PH I have purchsed the ColorQ Pro 7 digital tester from Lamotte. Chuck
  4. When you started up your Arctic tub what chemicals did you use on startup?
  5. Wet in ChiTown if I remember you are getting an Arctic hot tub. If you recall I replaced my 9 year old tub with an Arctic Glacier Summit. I did not use test strips to balance my old tub and the start up kit that the dealer provided me with contained test strips which I used along with my Taylor simple test kit. I hate test strips as it is hard to determin the color shading and the hard one is PH. Last week I ordered the ColorQ Pro 7 and expecting it to arrive this Friday. I'll let you know hot the ColorQ Pro 7 works and the accuracy of the unit. If you have any questions on running your Arctic tub please PM me and post it on the forum. Chuck
  6. Jimmysmash, For what it's worth I got my Arctic Glacier Signature with Onzen just over 2 and 1/2 weeks ago. Replaced a 9 year old Apollo hot tub. Got it from the local Apollo dealer who now sells both Apollo and Glacier hot tubs. You will not regret the purchasing the Yukon Ultra one bit. My wife now says the old tub was a buck of water and this tub is a spa tub. Chuck
  7. Renee What Pack do you have is it the Global Pack or the Gecko Metapack. If it is the Gecko Metapack and you set the number to 6 which is the highest number you can set it to the Onzen is working 24 hours a day not the 12 hours you are saying. ColorQ Pro 7 is found here: Color Q Pro 7 Instructions are found below: Instructions Chuck
  8. Congrats on the new hot tub. I got my Glacier a little over 2 weeks ago. After using the tub with my wife my water turns cloudy also. I called the Onzen support and here is what they told me: After you use the tub use 1 tablespoon per person of Arctic Refresh to shock the tub. Once a week use 1 cap full of Arctic Refresh to shock the tub. Be careful on the usage as Refresh will increase the clorine level in the tub. With just my wife and I using the tub 5 to 6 times a week I currently have my Onzen set to run only 8 hours a day. The dial on the Onzen generator is almost full on. Also make sure you PH level is between 7.2 to 7.6. If the PH level is high the water also will be cloudy. I have my PH at 7.2 In my opinion the test strips suck in reading PH levels. I have a Taylor kit that you use drops to test both the chlorine and PH levels. but again reading the color on the PH can be hard. Just ordered a ColorQ Pro 7 which will give me a digital readout of clorine and PH levels. You use drops in the tester vials. One I get the meter I'll give a report on here on my experience. Hope this helps.... Chuck
  9. Wet in ChiTown, This is what I found on the Arctic website about changing water after the first 30 days after a person gets a new hot tub. Go the Arcticspas.com and on the left side of the page choose faq. Now enter in the key search words the word balance. Now select I'm a frustrated new owner - why can't I keep the water in balance? BTW when you get your Arctic lets compare notes. I could PM you and let you know what I found to be helpful.
  10. Pete, It's normal when you turn any pumps on that the Onzen turns off. If you turn the pump off and then go out in about 50 minutes you will see that the Onzen is running. Look at page 19 in the manual under Filter Cycle Suspension as it fillows the same rules. You can also start it again by going into the low level programming, like you would to set how long the Onzen will run and make no changes. Just go through all the menus and at the end you will see that it does a reboot of the system and the Onzen will start working again. Took a picture of my Onzen pack and here it is. You can see the dial on the top right of the pack. Chuck
  11. SteelerPete Good looking tub. Do you want to share how you are setting the Onzen system. Would like to compare your setting against what I'm doing with my Arctic Glacier that I got just last week
  12. Peter, I just replaced my 9 year old spa that used chlorine and purchased an Arctic Glacier with the Onzen salt system. The Glacier was delivered last Wednesday and got it up and running a couple of hours later. Wife and I have used it now 9 times. Since it uses salt the water is much softer and I can tell the difference as my skin is not dry like it was before. Personally it was a good decision to purchase a spa that uses salt water system. Chuck
  13. Tom I'm also did the same with my tub as SteelerPete. I was careful but when you make a change at 11PM at night mistakes can be made. It's too bad that the Onzen and Filtration setting are not together on one function key so that you don't change any other settings. One week and 2 days for my Arctic Glacier and I love it. Wed night my wife and I were out at 10PM and just after we got into the tub looking up in the sky what do we see is the space station passing us overhead. Chuck
  14. Finally got around and added pictures of my spa to the original message post. Chuck
  15. What kind of Salt system are you using? The salt that I'm using is provided by Arctic called Onzen Natural Salt Water Care Sea Salt Blend Chuck
  16. Pete There are 2 ways to control the Onzen output. Inside the spa you can not miss the Onzen generator. On the top there is a dial to control the output. I have mine just backed down a little bit from being fully open. On the dial you will see a + or - sign. Next as mine is using the Gecko Metapack you control how long the Onzen generator runs to produce sanitizer measured as free chlorine. You will access this through the filter button. You can set the generator to run either 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 hours a day. This will depend on the number of users and how much your tub is being used. Chuck
  17. All I can say is WOW. This replaced a 9 year old hot tub. Spa dealer showed up at 10:15AM and I had already had the electrical removed and the tub drained. The dealer removed tub and then placed the new Arctic. Next the installed the cover lifter. Electrician showed up @ 12:15Pm. I started to fill the tub up with water while he did his thing. At 12:50PM power was up and running. Waited until the temperature got to 85 degrees which happened about 5PM and slowly added about 6 to 7 pounds of salt. Set the filtration to run 1 hour 3 times a day. Next started the Onzen system and set it to run 8 hours a day. Changed it last night to run 12 hours a day Currently free chlorine is now at 3 ppm. You don't have to open up the tub just change the setting on the tub top control panel. Currently running the Onzen system 7/8 open. The water is so soft and you don't smell of chlorine when you get out. Got 2 louvered doors that are installed to keep the inside from getting too hot. I will replace the doors in the fall. Wife and I are currently soaking in the tub every night and twice a day , morning and night on the weekend. Had a couple of questions on the Onzen system and call the number listed. Got all the questions answered. Here's a couple of pics of the spa Inside of the Spa. At night with one of the doors removed showing the Onzen generator working. If anybody has any questions about the Arctic tub just let me know.
  18. I assume you have resolved this by now but since I have had problems with my Beachcomber would be interested in your experience. Best wishes You might want to check Spokane Spas website: http://www.spokanespas.com/index.html They also repair PC boards and you can send in the unit. More information located with the link below: http://www.spokanespas.com/html/pc_board.html Read about them in the local Journal of Business.
  19. It looks like I'll beat you guys. Getting my Glacier Signature delivered to my home on Wednesday morning. Then at noon the electrician will show up and connect 220. This tub also has the Onzen system. I'm replacing an older 9 year old Apollo hot tub. Ill post on this form pictures and update you all on how the setup went.
  20. Thanks for purchasing our product. Thanks for the kind words, too--enough of those, and maybe I can get a raise! Now, have we got a deal for you. Onzen comes with free Factory Tech Support. The number is in the User Guide at the bottom of page 6, and you can call any time during normal business hours, Mountain Time. We'll be happy to answer your questions and help you get your system running right. Because this is a customer information line, please have your spa serial number handy as proof of ownership. Please don't ask for me. I'm not at that number, and it would just confuse things. Tom Tom I have owned an Apollo spa for over 9 years and now just purchased last week and waiting for delivery an Arctic Glacier Signature hot tub with Onzen system The local dealer first told me that the Onzen system comes with a digital tester, now they are telling me it doesn't. Is this digital tester an accessory that I need to purchase separetly and what does it test exactly? Didn't see any info on the Artic website. Chuck
