  1. thanks for the options. didn't really think of any of those. we just had about 20 people over yesterday and one of our friends didn't get the memo and had his trunks! LOL he got over it and actually said he would help with the new pool install. kids played on the slip and slide we ordered online (no one had one instock). and of course yesterday was in the mid 90's. but we still had fun anyways....saying next years big get together will definately have a new pool! jim
  2. hi, while the wife and i were just relaxing in the yard the pool split open and gushed out! we moved into this house in october and knew the pool was on its last leg. i am thankful after watching the force of the water that no one was in the pool. and it was so warm and clear to! LOL it broke right at the skimmer baskit area...rust had already been forming for awhile so we knew it was a matter of time. the pool was definately older....only 43-45" high? seems as though the new pools are 54" or so...which leads me to my questions. American pool carries sharkline. these good? only looking for an 18' round for the wife and i and any company that wants to come over....speaking of which we had about 7 or 8 kids and adults coming this saturday and we had told them to bring a suit! guess the sprinklers will have to do. also will i have to dig further down to install the taller pool? how far down is recommended? thought it might be easy since we are staying with the same size pool that was there....thanks. jim
  3. i am also a newbe, but a couple of things i can think of. Our cover was on but it ripped and i got some debri, not as much as you though. It took a few times to backwash and put in new de before the pump would work without clogging so fast. Also when the shocked our pool it started making a difference right away. We let it settle out for the weekend and were able to us the vacumm to get some of the debri, i will have to go in there and really work it soon. solar cover has been on for a couple of weeks and really makes a difference! The other thing, you should have a by pass on your water softner??? Or get a water delivery to get the job done fast.....good luck, we are definately still learning on ours....bought the house in october and seems as we have been the 1st to open our pool in the area (N.E.) north of Allentown pa. But we will also be the 1st in the pool!! good luck jim
  4. Hello all, we just moved into a newer home in october of last year. Pool was already covered for the winter. The previous owner did not treat pool from what i have been told. We had a service come out and go over a few things and i was hoping to ask a few questions. We shocked the pool and have the filter (D E) running. seemed to start out fine but loose pressure coming out the opening in the pool.....was told to turn off the pump and pump the handle and backwash a few times to get it going. i have done this and it seems to run quite a bit longer without loosing pressure now....it is clearing up but not totally clear yet. i had purchased a new vaccum head and did my best to get that started and seemed to stir up more then i got out. so, do i keep doing what i am doing and it will clear totally up? I shocked it initially then let it settle so i could get the vacuuming done and ended up shocking a week or so later with a smaller dose. 1) do i shock anymore or just use the tablets that float in the plastic houseing in the pool? 2) are these things this much work normally or just because i am starting out and have to do so much cleaning? 3) are they really worht it? never had one before....and this one might only last this one season, so don't want to sink alot of money in it just to see if we like it? thanks for any and all help.... Jim
