  1. I have a pool and a fountain that is made with a dark grey plaster. I like the color of the pool water with the grey plaster, but not the fountain. Because the water in the pool is a larger body or water and is deeper, the water is dark blue in color. The fountain is a much smaller and shallower body of water, and appears grey in color (instead of blue like the pool water). I am entertaining the idea to dying the fountain plaster to a lighter shade so the water in it appears more blue (i.e., similiar to the color of the water in the pool) Anyone know anything about dying plaster? Can a dark grey plaster be dyed lighter? Any issues with the dyes causing damage to the plaster (either immediate or long term)? Thanks Chris
  2. All, Is there is specified amont of time that Gunite should cure before applying the plaster? Is it based on the weather (how hot or cold)? Kind of on that same subject, is there a specific amount of time that plaster should cure before the pool is filled? I went by a neighbor that was having a pool built and the contractor only let the Gunite cure for 2 days before applying the plaster (although the tempeture was +100 for both of those days), and the pool was being filled within a few hours after the plaster was applied..... That sounds a little quick to me, but not sure if that is out of the norm or not. Thanks
  3. That might be your 'safest' thing to do. There are so many pool contractors out there (not sure where you live, but there are 'tons' in the Austin TX area) with favorable feedback, high customer satisfaction, and positive BBB standings. It would seem like a tough decision to go with someone that has proven (at least on this forum) to be the opposite. Needless to say, I would get at least 3 bids from different contractors in your area. Let the internet assist in your research by doing exploratory investigating. Look at their BBB standings, do a Google search on their name and see if there is any 'dirt' on them. After you have chosen the 3 contractors, ask them for customer references. I would ask for a reference from an 'old' customer and a customer that recently had a pool completed. Ask how the pool is holding up and the satisfaction level of their support. I would also ask for a customer that is currently having a pool being built to see how things are going. Whenever possible (reference permitting), go take a look at their completed work.
  4. Thanks Iveywk. I guess I am just trying to make sure that I am 'driving' a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy and not something that I will have continued issues with once the warranty period is over. I have been digging around on the web for product comparisons, and have not uncovered anything that concerns me about Jandy, but needless to say an inground pool investment warrants making sure you are not 'driving a lemon'. Chris
  5. I am in the process of getting bids for the construction of an in ground pool, and one of the pool companies that has provided me a bid uses Jandy pool and spa products almost exclusivly (when possible). Can anyone tell me anything about Jandy products and how they rate against their competitors? Is anyone aware of a comprehensive comparison of the companies that make pool and spa equipment? It would be nice to see an unbiased review of pool products and how they differ in quality and warranty. It has become apparent that pool builders have their favorite suppliers and do not like to deviate from what they use (for whatever reason, either relationships, trust, support, etc) Thanks in advance for your comments and advice. Chris
  6. Your pool appears to be coming together in record speed. It looks like they are doing a bang up job. I don't know if you are getting a discount from Ocean Blue Pools for all the positive advertising you are doing for them, but they should be throwing a bone your way for the favorable promotions...... It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to complete the job. By the way it looks, it won't be long now..... Congrats
