  1. If I go with the 2hp does it matter what size my sand filter is? Thanks
  2. Thank you so much for the information. This summer I took some measurements to the pool company and they told me that I had approximately 20,000 gallons of water in my pool. Will a 1 1/2 hp pump still be ok for my pool?
  3. My husband and I just bought our house in July and it came with an inground liner pool. We are now having pump problems. I had our pool company come out and close the pool down for the winter because the pump was making a horrible noise. The pool guy says that the pump motor is going out. The pump and pool are only two years old. A neighbor told me that the previous owners had to put a new motor on the pump last year. The pump is a 1 1/2 hp Century Centurian and on another sticker it says Hayward. I am guessing that the pump is made by Hayward. Remember, I am new to this pool stuff!!!!!! Pool guy said that a new motor is $300, new pump is $400. I am leaning towards a new pump since this one seems to have some problems. Pool guy suggested a Sta Rite, 1 1/2 hp. I need suggestions on which pump I should get. I want one that is quiet (the one that we have is not quiet). I also want one that will do a good job. I am not worried about cost just don't want something way expensive. I have a sand filter. I have read about getting a 2 hp pump, should I look at getting one or stay with a 1 1/2 hp? Also, how often should I change out the sand in the sand filter? Thanks in advance!!!! Laura
