  1. Hi ... I'm brandy new to this forum. I live in RI and I've owned an in-ground pool for 4 years ... that is my experience. So it is rather limited. However, I'll share my thoughts ... I believe it is more important to choose the right vendor more so than the pool material. When we were considering a pool, we looked at Gunite, Cement/vinyl and Steel/vinyl. Our neighbor has a gunite pool, so we were able to leverage their experiences. 5 years ago, the cost in our area for the pool 32 x 16 (no landscaping or deck) were about $25K for a gunite pool, $18K for the cement wall pool, and $14K for a steel walled pool. The cost of the gunite plus the cost of redo-ing the coatings every 6-8 years (neighbor's experience) didn't make sense. So we looked closely at the steel pools. The Cement wall pools are sold by a vendor who has been in business for 30+ years with lots of local recommendations. We talked to the sales people for 3 steel pool companies, and found that they were in business for an averageof less than 2 years. In fact, several had actually changed the name of their company several times ... a big red flag. In the end, we went with the established business and the middle-of-the-road cost. We are completely happy with the vendor. I had heard that you run risks of rusting ourt steel pools when they are not installed correctly ... and I'm not one to trust a fly-by-night operation. I will tell you that my best friend purchased a steel-wall pool. He's had a bit of trouble with a leaky liner that needed to be replaced 2xs. Otherwise he likes his pool.
  2. Thanks for the quick reply Best way to determine if there is a leak here? I don't see any air under the clear lid on the pump ... does that mean anything? Could it be the connection from my Brominator, which connects via a tee on the hose between the pump and the filter? How about the fact I can blow the air out via backwash, and then have no air in the system while running backwash, drain or polish settings? Anything I can do about this? Is it a problem? Many thanks!
  3. I have a jacuzzi sand filter with a 1.5 HP pump for my 32 x 16 pool. My filter constently fills with air while I'm running it so that I often lose the prime when it shuts off at night. The air backs up FROM the filter into the pump and back into the skimmer (sometimes blowing the filter basket out of the skimmer). I can get rid of the air when I backwash the filter, but the air builds back up after 2 or more cycles. I can hear the air in the top of the filter when it is running. Full disclosure ... I have installed Solar Heating panels and have added the plumbing (pvc tubing) last year; however, I had this problem before I did this, so I don't think I have an airleak in this part of the system. I have had the pool company I purchased this from come by and examine the filter ... of course he blamed the solar panel. I think the top of the filter has the airleak, but it may be in the plumbing between the pump and the filter. Seeking advice on how to locate the air leak. Thanks
