  1. My mother got the Optima a few years ago and I really liked it. It had all the bells and whistles with the floating remote for the stereo and the lights and the waterfall, but the jets were really nice as well. The only bad comment we ever had was from a short girl(5-3) who said she sat too low in the water... I would jump on that deal in a heartbeat if I was you!
  2. I can vouch for the liner thing...the liner that was in the pool when we acquired it was full of stains like when someone drops bleach on clothing.
  3. add powder chlorine directly into the skimmer? I had someone over this weekend who siad it could ruin the sand in the filter...
  4. Overheating. I just insulated my spa and am wondering if I need to ventilate the cabinet at all during the summer months and if so how much. I just replaced every electrical component on this spa except for the motor, so I would like to try to extend its life as much as possible to not have to buy one of those too...it's already 15 years old! On the motor itself it is written "ambient 40C" . Would that be the max temperature or the recommended?
  5. Where would be the best temperature probe placement to accurately monitor the cabinet temp? I noticed that if I place it near the motor it will get very hot as compared to when I place it on the door.
  6. No, they weren't glued. They were placed there and then slightly covered in foam (not my foam, the original stuff). So if I were to connect a jet in the place available, I would only need to use one of these two fittings and connect it to the jet itself? Or is there probably another element hidden in the foam somewhere?
  7. As I was putting the finishing touches of foam on my now full foam spa I noticed waterat the base of the foam. After a slight moment of panic, I started to examine the water and where it was coming from. Luckily I didn't need to take off much foam before finding the culprit. I took some pictures to show you guys: It seems that one of the caps covering these guys is cracked and so leaks a bit. There is place on the spa to add a jet about a foot from this area, so I figured that this was the connections to the jet, but when I remove the caps water only comes out of them if the pump is off. When the pump is on they both suck in a bit of air. Anyone know what these are for? Also, if I can't find any of these caps can I just connect the two together with some tubing?
  8. Any ideas? 46 views and not one reply...
  9. Well, this spa is over 15 years old and is made by LA Spas/Advanced Spas which is a company located in California. Coincidentally, I checked while the blower was turned on and it does in fact become sealed. In this case, there should only be one of these, right?
  10. I had this happen to me 2 days ago. All I did was open the drain valve for about 30 seconds to let the air out and then everything was OK.
  11. Is there such a thing as too much insulation? I really wanted to insulate my spa because the last time we ran our spa during the winter our electric bill doubled. Our spa cover was garbage, plus we had a spa pack with an intergrated GFI that would constantly go off, so we would wake up in the morning to find that the water had gone down to 55F about once or twice a week. So, spa pack replaced, new cover on its way, and now insulation. So far I added 36 cans of door and window insulation and in the really big voids I sandwiched pieces of 2 inch styrofoam with foam in between each layer. Then I added more spray foam. Then I joined this forum and read about the downside of full foam tubs... Now I am thinking of adding 2" styrofoam all around the spa before skirting it...would this be overkill? Also, what about wrapping the spa with Tyvek or something similar so that it can stop wind penetration, but allow the wood frame to breathe? There is full of foam in back of the blower and pump and pack , but no insulation at all in between these and the skirt/access door. I was thinking I would have a piece of styrofoam that I would attach to the inside of the access door during the winter season and remove it during summer. Would this be enough to insulate that side of the spa? Also, I saw a picture of a spa where they had used Flexfoil all around the spa...looks like aluminum foil bubble wrap...would this be a good alternative?
  12. Just got out of the tub and all jets are working fine! Nothing to worry about, right?
  13. Is there any way I can find out if I covered one up? What would happen if I did cover one up? Right now everything seems to be working fine...
  14. I almost made a big mistake!...I was adding extra foam insulation to my spa and was about to fill up a void when I noticed something- it is like a T junction that only have two pipes connected to it and the end of the T junction without a pipe faces downwards and has a hole in it that has a little plastic ball that sits in it to seal the hole. When I push the ball upwards there is no water that comes out. Actually, I did see a few drops of water come out of it once... My guess is that this is some kind of protection for the blower. Can anyone confirm this? I cannot follow the pipes back to the blower because they are hidden in insulation... Now the scary question... Is there usually only one of these or could there be another one somewhere?
  15. Howdy! Just got through making a 15 year old spa a little bit more modern- added a digital spa pack, changed the blower (the old one made the GFI jump..? ) , and added a few bells and whistles. Wish I would've found this board a few weeks ago...would have made my life alot easier and yours alot more irritating for you guys with alot of simple questions from me! I'm not completely through with this project yet, so I thought I would introduce myself before pestering the locals....
