Help With Pebblecrete Pool And Leaf Eater Please

Recommended Posts

Hi there
We have a pebblecrete inground pool which has a "kiddie" ledge about 4 feel wide that runs the entire length of the pool. This makes it extremely difficult to run cleaning equipment in the pool. (We bought this house with the pool like this two years ago).
We have purchased a leaf eater vacuum as it was the best one recommended for the ponytail leaves (long and thin) that get blown into the pool. It does not climb walls as advertised, not sure if this is just because it's a pebblecrete pool. It certainly wont climb on top of the ledge and clean it. In fact it does not move in the pool much at all and it is a constant frustration.
However today as we were backwashing the pool we noticed it was moving quite freely and we wondered if 'filter' was actually the best setting to have the sand filter on to run it? When it's running on filter it goes into a corner and gets stuck and does not move...for hours if we let it.
The options on our sand filter are
Filter
Backwash
Rinse
Closed
Recirculate
Waste
We're not really sure what rinse or recirculate are for.
We also purchased another pool cleaner (like a kreepy krauly) but it too does not move freely around the pool and despite the advertisement does not climb the walls.
Any help and advice at all would be greatly appreciated!
