  1. I’m looking for help on a new above ground pool pump. We had a 1.5hp 2 speed Hayward pump that was working well. A few years ago we installed 25 -12ftx2ft solar panels on our 2 storey garage. However our yard is tiered and the garage is on lower level. Pool is on higher level. Pump is on far side of pool so has to run through tubing all around 21 ft x 54” pool then up about 10ft to garage roof. The pump we had was working well for a couple years but last year started sounding louder so we took it in and they said it had a bad bearing. Quoted us same price of a new one to fix. So here we are looking for a replacement. My question is do we need something else? Did we wreck it since we added the solar panels? It would run on low and heat that pool in a few days. If ran on high it wouldn’t heat as it ran through the panels to fast. But i don’t want to buy something underpowered either? All this talk of head pressure etc is over my head. 🙈 I have tried to understand
  2. Hello Everyone, I am new to this site and thank all of you in advance for any inforamation you can give me. We are beginning our pool remodel project and need some advice on some pool equipment. OUr pool is about 25 years old or so. Our pool builder is scheduled and we are ready to to go! We hope this will be a positive and fun experience. We will be replacing all of our pool equipment and would like some recommendations on specs. Here is our info: approx 24,000 gallon pool will upgrade to 2 in pipe Equipment to Skimmer about 80 Ft Solar heating 30 ft with a 15 ft Rise We are thinking about a Pentair DE Quad Filter 60, but unsure about a pump that could hand our specs. is 1 HP too little or 3 Hp too much? Also, would it be wise to get a controller to automate the Solar heating valves. What kind of system would it need? Thank you!
  3. I currently have a Hayward 1 speed, 2 HP pump for my pool (21000 gallons) plus a booster pump for the polaris. I have an attached spa with overflow into the pool and little jet thingies at the bottom of the pool that are supposed to... I don't know what they are for exactly. Two skimming baskets. Cartridge filter. My Hayward has been repaired three times in the last year. The next time it breaks, I want to simply replace it. My electricity bill is through the roof, so naturally I want something energy efficient. As I understand it, a one speed pump is a bad thing because I am using too much force for the normal filtration, in order to have enough force for the spa (and maybe the cleaner too?) Everyone says a variable speed is better than a two speed, but why? It seems like you could run the pool on low speed most of the time and just turn on the high speed when you are using the spa. My pool guy says that would burn out the booster pump. That doesn't make sense to me (shouldn't the booster pump be built to have enough power to run the cleaner?), but even so, you could run it on high speed only when the booster pump or spa is on. Right? What are the extra speeds for? I am not opposed to getting a variable speed pump (and I really really don't want another Hayward), but I don't really understand what I am buying, and that bothers me. Anyone want to explain it to a non-techie person like myself? Also, does the variable pump replace the booster pump, or do you still run the booster pump too? So confused.
