  1. So, with the new 880 spas with the high flow circ, should owners program the "old style" filter cycles to zero?

They shouldn't have to touch the filter cycles. The only reason they use the filter cycles is to be a "heat mode" for the economy mode. When the spa is in Economy mode, the tub will only heat during these heat cycles.

Yes, both pumps bypass the filter. So having them running adds no extra filtration.

  2. Thanks, looked at the board again pulled it and no noticable problems. Still kicks on and off. Any other suggestions/

What kind of transformer does your spa have? Follow the black and red wires from the white plug on the board back to the transformer to find out which company made it. If it is an Excellent brand transformer, get it replaced. Also, on the board, just make sure that the capacitors are flat on the top, not rounded over.

  3. Question for any Sundanace owners out there. I just bot my 2007 Sundance Optima, and I'm a bit confused on how the filtration cycles work. After reading the manual it seem like that by default the circ pump comes on at 12:00 for a 24hr cycle (so I suppose its always running). It also states in the manual that there are four filter cycles pre programmed at 12:00 6:00 12:00pm and 6:00pm. Would this mean that at those 4 cycles that the main jets/pumps also come on for a period of time??

    Thanks.

The filter cycles are being phased out. On your spa, the only time a filter cycle will actually do anything is at 12pm. At that point it will turn each of the pumps on for a few minutes. Other than that, all the filtering is done by the circulation pump.

  4. I have a sundance spa with a sweetwater lx-15 control. I get a error on the display that reads 356

What does it mean and how do I fix it. The pump starts and stops right away. on/off/on/off get about 1 sec of run time before it stops. Please help!

When a Sweetwater starts up, it dislays "888", then the revision number, in this case 3.56, and then starts up. I would check the board to look for blown caps. (They are soda can looking things that stick straight out of the board. )

  5. :D The display does not totally go dark when we have the issue, it just goes dim. We do have the "excellent" transformer. Do you know if the transformer was a "recall" item or are they just bad xformers?

Could it be a software thing as we have a rev 9.51a oin the eeprom.

We have an "ozone 3" ozonator, I assume it is an aftermarket as there are a few wires from the harness that are taped off.

Thank you very much for your insights, ciderjack!

There was never a recall, but they were one of those things that if you saw it out in the field, it was supposed to be replaced. It can cause weird issues like the ones you are having.

  6. Well whatever he did, did not last. Any other suggestions. The tub was moved aprox 90 miles from previous owners home.....

When the control panel "goes dim," is there any display at all?

On a Sundance Optima, there are no 110v components. If the tub is only getting 110v, it will normally go into "lock" mode and won't be able to unlock. If there is no display when it goes out, your tub may be going into watchdog mode and then the lines are fading out.

It could be as simple as a temperature sensor. A couple of other things to check:

    1) The 2 capacitors on the circuit board near the Eprom (probably says 9.50B on the eprom). They look like small soda cans sticking straight out of the board. Make sure they are flat on top, not popped up.

    2) The transformer. Inside with the circuit board is the transformer. It has yellow, blue, black, and red wires coming out of it. See if you can figure out which brand of transformer it is. If it is an "excellent" brand transformer, it should be replaced. (oh the irony)

    3) Does the tub have a CD ozonator? If so, try unplugging that and seeing how the tub runs.

  7. I need help! I have a 1999 Sundance Montego, and I shut it off today to refill it, and when I turned it back on, the control panel looked like it was working fine. I went to push the temp up button, and it freaked out, and went blank. I turned it off and restarted it, and it blinked a whole bunch of random numbers and then went black again. It is cycling and pumps work, but you have to press the wrong buttons to get them to come on and there is no temp display. Is this the control panel that needs to be replaced or something else????

    Goldy

If you have to press the wrong buttons to get the pumps to work, it sounds like a bad control panel.

  8. The display is scrolling. The tub will run fine like this, but it should be taken care of. It is either going to be a bad board or a bad topside control.

From the service side of things. for whatever unknown reason, the temp sensor seems to raise hell with the motherboard, sounds like the top-side is working fine to me, if all the pumps, light blower, ect., work it has to be a temp sensor.

Sundance- most common brain scrambler =temp sensor let me know how it works out, temp sensor is easy to test, and every good service center has one in stock for this very reason. It's not the topside believe me. PS do not let them sell you a new board, the chip can be swaped out, this is what you get for not going with Balboa! lol!

No. The temp sensor is not causing this problem. The temp sensor is not a "brain scrambler." All it does is read resistance. Yes, it could be the topside. Yes it could be the board. NO. It is not the temp sensor.

Yes the chip can be swapped out. Will this fix the issue? Maybe. Check the capacitors right next to the chip. They should look like small soda cans. Are the tops flat? Or are they bulged out? If they are bulged out, replace the board.

  9. How do these prices sound?

Capri w/ Ozone, cover, delivery, etc $7250

Metro w/ Ozone, cover, delivery, etc $5250

They sell these at Costco in the seatle area and the optima was 8k so it seams alot cheaper then a dealer. See if you have a local Costco that may have them.

If you do not want a service plan or warranty go with Cotsco. If you want your product backed up for several years go with a dealer.

You are obviously not aware that the local dealers will service the spas sold through Costco as the warranty is from Sundance and they pay the local dealer for any service work needed to the spa.

No Dealer is going to do work for free and no dealer will warrant a tub but rather the factory.

As for the warranty it is the same as any dealer that sells the Sundance line..... I suppose you will now say that Sundance is a second rate spa now?

I do not think you are aware that a dealer will not be happy to do the warranty work and will care less if it breaks down again unless they sold it. I don't think dealers are too happy about the situation either. You might see alot of dealers dropping that line or taking on another line of spas. We all know what happens when dealers switch manufacturers like underwear. Leaves an ugly taste in old customers mouths. "WE NO LONGER SERVICE THAT SPA SIIIRRRRR!" "YOU WILL HAVE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER SIIIRRRR!" Sort of like buying a spa from Cotsco to begin with. Sounds like sundance (NASCO or whatever) is desperately trying to sell more units. I can understand if they made a cheesier line like Hot Srings highlife model did for Cotsco but they took their identical spa's from my understanding and just plopped them into a hand full of Cotsco stores in essence affecting independent dealers. That is like the situation with Master spa's opening up Corporate Master Dealers right behind independent dealers stores (PA Hershey in particular of the top of my head). Alot of Dealers dropped Master spa because of that. Some people are lucky to find a place in this forum and identify with other people with similar situations.

sounds like a personal problem and if you as a dealer refuse to service a spa that just goes to show you are a sore loser in the first place. Your beef is with Costco yet you think it is ok to refuse service to a customer that simply got a better price? I got it now.

The beef is not with Costco, it is with ANY dealer that sells the same spa we sell and expects us to service it. Part of being a dealer is "servicing what you sell." Nowhere does it say "service what the dealer down the road sells." Yes, the customer got a better price, but what did he sacrifice to get that better price?

  10. Prez Bush had or has the LSX 1050 at Camp David! Now that's impressive!

...and he has a HotSpring Grandee in the White House and a HotSpring Vanguard at his home in Crawford, TX!

...and he has a track record for making great decisions :P

**Disclaimer** Im just kidding and don't want to make this a political debate **end disclaimer**

  11. Thanks for your response. I agree we aren't comparing apples to apples. The 880 series is top of the line Sundance and you are right the Optima is bigger by about 100 gallons. The seating in the Jaccuzi appears lower creating the feel of a bigger tub. Unfortunately, going up to the 400 series of Jacuzzi isn't financially possible. We got a great deal at a local Home and Garden show with many vendors competing.

The Jacuzzi dealer told us that his filtration system was superior over Sundance because their pump filters 24/7 where as Sundance the filter is bypassed when the pool is occupied and the jets are on. Sundance says that this allows them to move more water. Jacuzzi says that their spas are the clearest and cleanest through their process. Do most use the same as Sundance?

    Thanks.

The Sundance tub filters 24/7. When the tub is occupied, and the pumps are on, it is still filtering. However, the main pumps do not run water through the filter. The filtering is done with a dedicated, 35gpm pump. This move allowed Sundance to filter enough water (50k gallons per day) and remove the main restriction on therapy pumps.

  12. -_- What would cause the wires from the heater to the circuit board on a 2006 Sundance Palermo - (Which there are 3 of them - 1 white, 1 Black and 1 Green) the white one connecting to K8 on the circuit board 6600-088 part no. - has been burned completely off!! It was not like this before we had it wired up for power by a certified electrican B) ..

240V/55AMP service was installed - and the wires were connected into the Control Box (power only) 6ga - The spa was filled with water - and the jets/pumps were all tested by them (Electrican) who does all of the Sundance Spa installations in our area - Everything seemed to be working ok - SPA started heating up - but only made it to 90 in 2 days. I turned the circuit breaker off - and after doing some research - and knowing that the spa was working - to check the wire coming into the Control Box on the front of the spa (as they connected the power/wires to this) - in doing that! this is where I discovered the burned wire (white)- What would have caused this??? ;)

    Thanks

Bad connection. If the circuit board is not damaged, you can just crimp new connectors on the wires and the tub will be fine.

  13. The other larger jets should either shoot straight or give a wave like motion, depending on how you have the inside nozzle. The inside nozzle can also be spun so the wave can go in whichever direction you would like.

I just learned that the inside nozzle of the fluid-x jets in the therapy seat of Sundance 800 series spas can be turned for a different massage. Is this something new for 2007 or do older spas have the same feature...say my 2002?

All fluidix jets have an inside that can be turned. The inside nozzle of your intelli-jets can be either straight, or turned so that it rotates.

  14. The one thing I'm not crazy about in my Sundance Optima is the lack of "variety" in the jets. The main "captains" chair has jets that move the water side-to-side (with no moving parts -- BONUS!) and it feels great. However, that effect goes away when you turn the air on to those jets -- then they just shoot straight. Most of the other jets in the tub are just straight-shooters...

I have to admit that as much as I like the idea of lots of fancy moving jets, I do NOT like the idea that they eventually fail due to the moving parts. Thats one nice thing about the Sundance jets I supppose -- no moving parts...

The other larger jets should either shoot straight or give a wave like motion, depending on how you have the inside nozzle. The inside nozzle can also be spun so the wave can go in whichever direction you would like.

  15. not big on the faces, but how the heck is sundance winning this? Sundance isnt half as good as they were pre Micron filter.

3.Sundance-they bipass 100% of water (exact opposite of hot springs)

They filter 50k gallons of water, UNBYPASSED, everyday. They just chose to separate the filtering from the therapy. That way your jet pressure never drops even as your filter starts to fill up.

it seems to me that when your in the tub is when you need the filtered water the most

If you are not running the jets, you are still filtering in a Sundance when you are in the tub. You are filtering 35GPM. If you turn the pumps on, you are still filtering. If you get in the tub, and the circulation pump is off for some reason, and you turn the jets on, the circulation pump will turn on to filter.

  16. If you open up the equipment and look at the circuit board, there is a chip on the board near the top, in the middle, that should read 1.28F or something like that. If you buy the 1.28GX chip (should be around $25), you will be able to program the circulation pump.

If you press the cycle button 5 times, and it reverts back to the 1st filter cycle, you cannot program the circ. pump. If, on the 5th press, it displays "Circ", then you can press Select and adjust it.

  17. The neutral that is supposed to be coming out of the GFCI should not be connected at all. If it is connected to the neutral on the GFCI and the ground on the spa, it will trip every time. Instead, the neutral wire should be grounded at the spa end and at the breaker box. There should be no wire hooked up to the load neutral section of the GFCI.

  18. The pressure switch is screwed into the heater tube. When you open up the control box, almost in the middle of the heater tube, there should be a switch screwed into the tube with 2 wires going to it. That is the pressure switch. You should be able to get one at any pool/spa store.
