  1. Hi,,,

Strange question maybe but we've had out hot tub (HS Grande bought new) since the spring and have never noticed "gurgling" sounds from the interior pipes. Now we have. Have we just noticed a normal sound, or maybe something that has started up recently and is abnormal? Water levels are fine. Of course when the jets are on you can't hear it but when the jets are off and you want things to be quiet there is a very noticeable "gurgling and bubbling" sound. Kind of annoying. I wonder if I should have it looked at???

    Thanks.

    Ron

Hi Ron.. I'd run it by your HS dealer to be sure, but it sounds perfectly normal to me.

We have the HS Sovereign and the circulating pump and Ozonator bubbles are always making a slight gurgling noise when the jets are not on. I've never thought it to be annoying, though ...

  2. I purchased a used spa in Poughkeepsie, NY and need to move it to Holbrook, NY (about 250 miles). I am having great difficulty finding a company that moves spas. If anyone can reccomend a company in the tri-state area to this this sort of move I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks, Jim

    Yikes! That's quite a ways.

We moved a Sovereign HS spa to our new home (10 miles) in October last year .. we had Hot Springs move it . I know most Movers don't move spas.

How big is it? If manageable you'd be best off moving it yourself if it can travel flat in a truck (with a lift) and you're careful.

The 3 HS guys moved it on its side .. onto a dolly.. and rolled it (carefully) to the truck lift. He kept a pc of cardboard handy in front in to help it roll easier, and in case they needed to tip the tub a bit onto the ground to turn or adjust. It did not get scratched and works great.

Good luck.. I hope you manage to find a mover or move it yourself OK.

  3. Looking for any advice on a used Prodigy by Hot Springs. I guess I realize that the Hot Springs are great quality but is $1500 still a good price for a 3 year old spa? Any advice will be helpful.

I agree with Altazi, to look into all the things he mentioned. Also to wet test it would be great! Make sure the water is clean, shell taken care of .. it sounds good, etc, too. Ask what their water maintenance was .. how often they changed the water, etc.

But the price you mention is a great deal and you'd love the Prodigy tub. We have a Sovereign HS and have been sooo happy with it. (8 yrs) Used HS usually sell pretty quick in the paper around here.

    Good luck!

  4. I don't think you should even be concerned about the water bill - it's minimal, really.

We use the ozonator and keeping the water balanced (350 gal. HS Sovereign 7 yrs old) is very easy.

The chemicals you mentioned is about it - non chlorine shock - use according to brand/size recommendation - and then ph and alkalinity up or down, as needed. I add 1 TB chlorine granules wkly also - along with the MetalX or Stain & Scale out weekly or as directed also. But our water is high in iron, etc.

Once you get used to it all, and get to know what your spa water needs, it's very easy, promise :) Your local dealer should be able to help you with understanding things better. And changing the water is not a big deal either, really. ... as stated earlier.. very well worth it :) Enjoy your spa, try not to worry too much.

  5. Just got a new tub and love it. I am amazed at how clear the water is, but there are a few flakes of something, floating around in the tub. As I said, very few, but it appears to be flakes of skin. Has anyone else ever noticed that? I am filtering for 2 hours, twice a day, plus the time we are in the tub, which is daily for about 30 minutes. Should I be filtering longer. My filter is a 50 sq.ft.

    Thanks

Hi! This is what they call "Scale" and has to do with minerals in your water.

We have this problems as well, IF we don't regularly add a "Stain and Scale" prevention solution. (follow the directions on the bottle, but we add 1 ounce- once per week) It helps prevent scale formation on spa surfaces, heaters, and piping. It also prevents stains caused by iron, copper and manganese in your water.

Just ask a dealer near you about it .. they'll steer you in the right direction. Good luck!

  6. I am the one who purchased a 2001 Hotsprings Sovereign Classic that was a 110V. I have an electrician who is doing the 220V conversion and running the wiring for me. Here's my question - I went to an authorized Hotsprings dealer and purchased the 20/30 split breaker subpanel. This may be a dumb question, but is this the box that goes about 10 feet from the hot tub? Or, is this a box that goes inside the hottub cabinet? My father has a hottub and I know that at the end of his conduit, there is a breaker box, and from there the hottub wiring is connected. Is this THAT box?

Is this subpanel that box, or is this something entirely different? I know wires need to be jumped (electrician is doing that), but I just want to know about this box. Thanks in advance!

    THANKS!

    Jackie

Hi Jackie - We own a Hotspring Sovereign (altho an older model) and we have the box you're talking about 10 ft from the tub. I hope that helps :) happy spa-ing!

  7. Does anyone know of any reasonably priced spa moving companies in Northern NJ? And also, what is the going rate? I called two spa dealerships so far, and one said 500 to move it one hour and another said minimum 450.

Can you all tell me what a going rate is? Also, do regular moving companies move spas? Thanks!

    Jackie

Hi Jackie - We had our HS tub moved by the Hot Springs people last November - it took them a little over an hour total time - about 10 miles total distance - and it cost us $350. The movers we talked with didn't want to touch it - but I hear that some will move them for a fee.... But we felt better having our hot tub dealer move it. I'd keep checking around ... and good luck!

  8. Everyone has told me that ECO ONE and dichlor is the best - but I keep getting a scum line. Just this weekend I completely emptied, cleaned, refilled with water and brand new filter. I put in the Eco One and by morning I had light brown floaties and a scum line with the broen particles. I have taken the filter out 3 x and cleaned it but the stuff is still in the water. Any Ideas on what it is and how to get rid of it

Have you been using any type of "stain/scale" preventive/treatment? It helps rid the water of Iron/rust/etc .. just a suggestion. - I add it once per week and rinse or clean my filters often. Good luck!

  9. I just moved into my house in Las Vegas where there was a spa inground outside. At first it would heat up so we called somebody who came out (while I was at work) and spent about 5 minutes with the control panel and inside the hole where the heater and pumps are.

We lost our power after that due to mess up at power company. After we lost our power it wouldn't heat again. Called the spa repair company... same thing. 5 minute fix. I wasn't there again and my wife forgot to ask what they did to fix it.

We have since lost our power again and I can't for the life of me figure out what they did to fix it. They won't tell me over the phone because of course they want to charge me to fix it.

All the pumps are working (at lest I can see both of them spinning)

It doesn't heat and there is not water beging sucked through the filters.

Oh yeah, its a spa builders LX-15

Can someone please tell me what to do?

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will answer you, but I'm sure there's a Reset button of some sort for the heater. Take a close look to where the heater is located and see if you can locate a reset button. That should take care of things! The same thing happens to us at times. Good luck!

  10. Can you tell if the spa is leaking from the same place?

Were the original leak and the second leak from the same place? If so they should not have charged you for the second repair(in my opinion).

If this leak is from the same area then they should warranty their work and the foam they removed should have been replaced. My opinion.

I totally agree that you should not have been charged for the second repair. Did you alert the local HS about the foam not being replaced? Sometimes, unfortunately, it takes (in my experience) talking to a few people at the local HS to get things taken care of properly - I hope you've not let too much time pass since the warranty was up.

I'd definitely talk to them again, and also write the Hot Spring's Customer Service (HS website) and explain the situation fully - see if they can help.

    Good Luck!

  11. Has anyone tried installing the Spaudio after buying the tub? The Grande is supposed to be Spaudio ready. I assume this means the mounting brackets for installing the transducers are factory mounted to the inside of the shell? I have a source for buying the transducers. If I installed those I could then hook up a stereo and be done. Could do it for around half the price. If the mounting brackets are not factory installed I would be leary about attaching the transducers.

If I could find the installation manual that the dealers use to install the Spaudio that would be even better.

    Thanks.

Why not go to the HS website and ask their tech support? They're usually pretty fast at answering email questions. They do have an 800 # also, I believe. Good luck!

  12. Thats a suprise that a full foam spa leaks. I wonder how a crack formed on a shell, I actually never thought of that happening except when I picture a tree falling on it. The shell is easy to fix from my understanding but can be a little costly. Do you think the circulating pump went bad because it runs 24hrs.? hmmm I wish you the best of luck and happiness for your spa

Thanks to both replies! Hot Springs is going to come give an estimate to fix it. They also sell a product to fix it ourselves - $82.50. So we'll see which we choose. Will post the result here, when finished. We do, however, have to wait until the weather warms up to fix it. I believe it has to be above 50*.

The shell is not leaking - luckily both cracks are on the lip of the tub... from the edge (which wraps around over the top of the wood base) and is approx 3.5" long... gaping at times to a good 1/8" wide at the start of the crack.. and ending on the top ledge of the tub, where we drilled the holes to stop the cracks. We sure hope this will be successful :)

    Thanks again

  13. Hi everyone .. I'm new to this site - so forgive me if you've covered this topic already.

We've had a Hot Springs Sovereign tub for 8 years since it was new. (it's outside in Green Bay, WI) .. Have been pretty happy with it .. however we did have a few issues that were fixed under the warranty. (heater, circ pump, jet repair, leaks).

Wouldn't you know, one year past warranty we have two somewhat large cracks on the lip of the tub.. approx 3.5" long. We've drilled small holes, as instructed, to stop the cracks.. but now ... what product will do the best repair/filler job? Does anyone have experience with repairing the Endurol shell, which is the hard white thermoplastic?

I'd love to hear from you. ... any info would be appreciated. We're hoping to get a few more years out of this tub before replacing :)

    Thanks!
