  1. Calm down little fella, I'm referring to service availability when the inevitable problems arise. I'm not talking about Master Spa per se, rather the "fly-by-night" outfits in general.

We see it year after year around here. Folks come in promising the moon (either a new local dealer or travelling spa peddlers) and within 2 or 3 years, the folks making all the promises are looooonnnnggg gone to fresher pastures leaving their "customers" very perturbed at having a broken down spa and no one to work on it. We haul about 30-40 spas/year off for our customers and many of those are no more than 3 years old.

We'll just see how it all plays out. We've been here 21 years and, barring thermonuclear war, will be here 3 years from now. I'll be sure to report back. Feel free to do the same.

    :)

    Terminator

There might not be a thermonuclear war but those fires seem to be doing a number on you guys. :D

  2. Wow, since I asked the first question this post has really gone to some extremes.............

    Now, I need help.

Used the tub the other night, everything worked fine except the stereo. The stereo will turn on but that is all. No sound, cd's dont play either.

Next night I went to use it and the water is cold 64 degrees and 3 flashing lights under the temp. I turned on the jets, they all work fine, i think. I read on the error page that maybe it is a flow issue. I took the filters out, cleaned them and still flashes, Now it wont even heat up.

It sounds like some of you with posts on here know something about tubs. Is this a big problem?

    Shelly

Did you shut the power off to it. If it trips the high limit it doesnt automatically reset. You have to shut the power off at the breaker then reset it. That clears the memory on it. When you say you cleaned the filters how did you clean them?

  3. I'm trying to avoid building a fence around my new pool and spoil the backyard view. I am installing an automatic cover that will locked. Has anyone does an automatic pool cover as safety option and in lieu of installing a fence around the pool? And had your insurance company accept the cover over the fence?

In our experience no insurance company will accept an automatic cover in lieu of a fence. The problem is a cover can be left open and vulnerable to kids or animals wandering in. In our area a fence is required along with a spring loaded self latching gate so that the gate cant be left open accidentally.

  4. Yes there is dirty water when backflushing we run it till it appears clear. As far as working to hard. Yes I am but for good reasons. I only get home on saturdays and sundays right now [ work out of town]so there is a lot to complete. I would like to have some ideas to try when I get home next friday because it's time thanks to the solar panels to get the pool open. I will check the fingers and standpipe right now.

If the sand is specified for a pool filter it will not be the issue. One thing you want to do on the multi port valve when you have a lot of debris in the pool is to vacuum with the valve in the waste mode so that all of the debris isnt going into the sand. In this mode it allows you to vacuum but sends everything through the valve and right out the waste line. This will make it so you dont have to keep backwashing. In this mode you will be pumping the water right out of the pool so you will want to throw the garden hose in the pool and be adding water as you are vacuuming.

To help you diagnose your problem I need a little more info. What brand and model are your filter and pump?

  5. I got the spa from a dealer in Ft Lauderdale, Fl It was his house brand (all he carried) and it had 2 recliners, l lounge seat (semi recline) and bench seating for 6 with 2 neck jets on the recliners and lounge, rotating back jets, shoulder jets, some type of ocillating jets, foot jets, etc. . It was acually not the bigges one he had. there was on that was a bit bigger but it was not as comfortable when I wet tested it. The cartride for the filter was almost as big as the one in my current pool/spa setup (pentair clean and clear 150) being maybe about a foot shorter but it was wider. It was a lot of fun.

Do you know what the brand is or is it built by one of the fiberglass pool manufacturers?

  6. okay, I just used the tub for the first time an hour ago. Very Nice. When I have more time I will post a full report and pics. How can I put pics on that arent from a website? I just want to upload pics from my local directory. Until I know how to do that I cant post any pics. I dont have a website or anything to do that with.

Did you get the chemicals figured out?

  7. ok you got me there. No clue. We purchased it at our local litehouse pool dealer. They sized to our needs. steve

The reason that I asked is the sand filter has to have 20 grit silica sand and if you dont use the right grit it can cause the problems that you were describing.

Was there a lot of debris in the pool when you were vacuuming?

  8. Hello to all. Were getting ready to open the big water[ 30,0000 gal. above ground] once again and before we start I have some questions and concerns. Last year we noticed that as we were vac. the pool that we would loose suction????? The only way we could vac. was to set the filter/pump on high speed????? After we backwashed the filter [ plenty of time for the discharge water to clear] and reset the multi. valve to the normal filter cycle that it blew tons of crap back into the pool??????? We changed the sand 3 times and made sure the figers were all good and clear. Should I replace all gaskets in the system or is there other suggestions??? Thank you in advance for all help and info. steve

What size sand did you put back in the filter when you changed it?

  9. I wasnt home when they set the tub up. My wife was home but I dont think was really into asking any questions. How can you do start up run upon delivery and add chemicals when the hook up is suppose to be done by a proffesional electrician? The chemicals are only suppose to be added with the jets turned on. NO electricity means no jets, not jets means no chemicals. I know that hot springs comes with the gfci box but how can dealers do the chemicals and initial start up without it hooked up? Even my hot springs dealer requires a seperate electrician to do the hook up. In fact all of the dealers (15+) wont touch the electrical.

We dont do electrical either. We give the customer all of the electrical info and the breaker box and instruct them that if the wiring is there at the time of delivery we can connect the wiring to the spa. We just cant pull any wire.

If the customer doesnt have the wiring done at the time of delivery we have them call us when the wiring is done and we go back and do a complete startup.

You can add chemicals to the spa without the spa circulating if you have to. Its just a better idea to stir the water up good to distribute the chemicals better.

  10. We just bought our first spa. We purchased a new 2005 Tiger River Bengal, which is probably one step down from the Capsian for $5,500. It included installation, steps, cover, chemical kit, and cover butler. Did we get a decent price?

I agree you got a good price. We sell that model for $500.00 more and our price doesnt include the cover lift.

  11. In a perfect world. You obvioulsly never lived iwth a 10x10 foot spa! putting the CYA in the water with each refill and then sanitizing with unstabiized chlorine is MUCH easier than wresling with a 10x10 hard cover  It was my spa dealer who got me on this track. He suggested it and it worked. He said bromine would be another alternative that would work. I then went to bromine and it did work but I had more problems with pH and alkalinity than with chlorine.

There arent to many 10' square spas out there. I see plenty of large inground spas and I'll say it again the care that I would recommend for them would be different. In fact I wouldnt even bother having a cover made for anything over 9' because I know from experience it wont get used after the customer handles it a few times.

And I have never seen a 10' self contained spa.

  12. When the HS dealer had my tub delivered they waited until the water was filled and power completed then we started up the tub and he added all the first time chemicals. He then went over all the different procedures I am suppose to do (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) explaining and jotting down notes in the manual. All this was done at my home, not at the dealers location.

    IPB Image

What have others experienced from their dealer when their tub was installed?

That is standard practice for our deliveries. We always fill the spa and do a complete startup with our customers.

I think that makes a huge difference when it comes to a customers buying experience and it makes becoming a new spa owner much easier.

Could we get some feedback from some of the spa customers on this topic.

I've really never asked how important that was it has just always been our standard practice and we usually spend at least 2 hours with them at startup.

  13. Well, my new tub showed up today (LA HEET) and my electrician is on his way over to do the final hook up. I got some chemicals to put in but I dont know how much of what and where. I recieved a NATURE 2 stick thingy that goes in the filter. That part I fugured out but where can I put it? MY filters are the bags that you undo a big rubber band and pull out. Its not like a normal pool filter. Also, I recieved some LEISURE TIME RENEW. It says it shock treats without chlorine. There are bunch of small pouches of it (2oz). Do I add one? 2? It is like 400 gallons or so of water in the tub. I also recieved a big tub of LEISURE TIME SPA 56 chlorinating granules (2lbs). Do I add some of that as well? How much? I also recieved a pack of 50 NATURE 2 spa test strips that test MPS,Alkalinity and pH. Any help? I need some ASAP as I plan on using the tub tommorow night (approx 24 hours). I was going to go over and get some help from the salesman last weekend but he was doing a spa show. I never made it over there before to go over all the chemicals. I have just been so excited I havent been thinking about chemicals that much. Between finding an electrician, making time for deliver and the coordination, the chemicals just slipped right past me. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off dont panic. :D The nature 2 cartridge should go down a standtube that your filter goes around but Im not familiar with the bag your describing.

Dont worry about the shock (renew) for now. First you need to get some chlorine in there so that when the spa heats up its ready for you to use. Iwould add two tablespoons of chlorine and if you cant figure out where the cartridge goes dont worry about adding that right now. You can use the spa without it. It will just help reduce the amount of chlorine you use.

The main thing is you want a good sanitizer base so you can use it when it gets hot. When you use it add a little chlorine for each person that had been in the spa to help maintainn the sanitizer base. Dont worry its a piece of cake. :D
