  1. Please help me with this problem I'm having...the ACE cell in my hot tub is clogged very badly...I've tried cleaning it with pH decreaser many times and I still can't get it clean. Can I use a small brush to clean out the calcium build up inside it?

You could probably use a brush if you were very careful but I still think extended soaking would do the trick if its calcium though I wonder how you got to this point? Hopefully your dealer can give you some insight.

We sell Mineral Springs Cell Cleaner.

  2. While my wife and I were at the HS dealer we had a chance to look (but not wet test) the HS Prodigy model. The dealer informed me that the Prodigy comes standard as 110V, which means if I wanted 220v I would need to "upgrade" the unit at a pretty step cost (think it was around $500). My wife and I really like the prodigy, however I am not a big fan of the fact that while the jets are on the heater is shut off. Does anyone have a prodigy on these forums and can let me know how fast the hot tub cools off while you are soaking in it? My fear is i go to soak in the tub for 20-30 minutes and the temp will drop 5 degree's.

The other model we are looking at is the Limelight Glow, now the Glow is 220v standard, but it doesn't have an ozone unit, and the prodigy does. Dealer informed me that if I want a ozone unit installed on the Glow it would be around $375.

There really is no "upgrade" to convert the Prodigy to 220volts. The only thing that you need is the 220 volt subpanel which is a little expensive if the dealer charges retail. If you have a good electrician, get the wiring diagram ahead of time, and get your own breakers. With that said, the wiring and breakers is very specific, so don't stray from the diagram thinking it would work another way.

The only other thing required is changing the jumpers on the control pad when it gets powered up. There are basic instructions for doing this in the electrical info.

I am so damn confused now... my dealer told me I needed to upgrade the unit. Am I being taken for a ride here at my local HS dealer? The Prodigy is one of the hot tubs that me and the mrs really like (have yet to wet test). But we hate the idea of needing to "upgrade" anything electrical. Ugh this hot tub buying thing is so stressful.. I need a drink damn it.

The only thing that needs to be done to the tub is to change some jumper settings through the menu on the control pad. It takes about 30 seconds. As I said though the sub panel is pretty expensive and he may just be calling that the 'upgrade'. If you want the tub negotiate the price for the 110 version and get the 220 breakers on your own if you have a good electrician.

    Agreed.

  3. Come on people...some answers would be nice. All these views but no help???

    1) LED lights should be fairly easy to replace as they should be front-serviceable. If in doubt just buy 1 from the local dealer and try it out but ask them if there is a tool to remove the from face before you get too far. Maybe they can show you in the showroom.

    2) Not sure. Why not ask at teh dealer while you're there getting the lights.

The lights are front serviceable. However, if it is a wiring issue it is a bitch. Don't even try.

Ask the dealer if they have a copy of the ICast owner's manual. You can try shutting down and restarting. Check the channels on the back of the ICast transmitter. Try different settings.

  4. As of 2009....Based on Estimated Units

    1. Jacuzzi/ Sundance

    2. Hot Springs / Caldera

    3. Master Spas

    4. Cal Spas

    5. Dynasty

    6. Thermo Spas

    7. Arctic Spas

    8. Hydropool

    9. Coast Spas

    10. Beachcomber

Based on who's estimates? What happens if you break out Jacuzzi/Sundance and Hot Spring/Caldera?

  5. Well, this thread got way off topic. Questions for the nay sayers: Is biofilm in pipes an issue in our industry? Is water mold build up in pipes an issue? Products such as Silk Balance and Aqua Finesse are preventing the buid up of biofilm.

They also give the water a silky feel.

They are not sanitizers. Perhaps AF misleads on their web site. We sell Silk Balance. Most of our customers use ozone with it. We also tell them to shock weekly with Enhanced Shock, which contains chlorine. They also use either AG+ w/MPS or chlorine with each use.

It sounds like most of the arguements here are about marketing and customer education, rather than about water care.

  6. Hottubdan,

Have you guys installed any of the Chlormaker(inline version)? If so, how are they holding up comparred to the ACE? I am really close to pulling the trigger within the next week and having my Hot Spring dealer install one in my 2008 Limelight Flair. Any experiences would be appreciated.

We should be installing our 1st in a week or two. We have installed @ 20 regular Technichlor 220 units. Seem to be working fine.

  7. Spa God, is there a particular brand that you've seen trouble with? My local Hot Springs dealer says that Technichlor manufactures the system pre-installed on their tubs and their customers love it (of course, what else would a dealer say?). Yzoldman, please do keep us updated. Any one else try Technichlor or Nexa Spa and care to comment?

After adding salt and starting the SWG the other night I took a soak for about 45 mins. Normally I would have added about 1.5 oz of dichlor after that soak to keep CL level up. This time I did nothing. Checked chemistry the next evening and Cl =5, TA=80, PH=7.0, CA=100. Not sure why the drop in PH. Added a little Baking soda about an oz. Today the readings are the same except PH=7.8. Salt concentration is betwwen 2500 to 3000. I have lowered the power level of the SWG and plan on a soak tonight.

Normally if I had not added CL for two days after a soak I would have a Cl of less than 1. So it does appear to be keeping the level up but a little high.

    Tap it down a little.

What do you mean that Technichlor manufacturer the system pre-installed?

We sell both the Hot Spring ACE and Technichlor. Neither is "pre-installed." We install them. And customers do love the salt systems by and large.

  9. Well, I did get the Taylor kit. And I do agree that it's the way to go.

Problem is, my tub still does not register any chlorine with the ACE system active. I think I am going to drain it and start over in a couple of weeks when the weather is a little warmer. The water in the tub looks perfectly clear and I still use it, but I just feel like it should register chlorine.

Do you still heva the ozone installed?

  10. Soak4life is correct about the contractor series having a one year warranty, the Northwinds series that is.

Here's the link to the PDF warranty details I found online.

    http://www.coasthottub.co.uk/images/spas/pdf/warranties/2009_-_int_nw_contractor.pdf

This is it's cheapest bare bones series as far as I'm aware.

Here's the Coast Elite series warranty

    http://www.coasthottub.co.uk/images/spas/pdf/warranties/2009_-_(na)_coast_elite.pdf

I must admit that this is what I got but don't know for sure whether this has changed but I do wonder if the OP was looked at the Contractor series and not the Elite or above.

Oh, I almost forgot. Here's the link to all their warranties on their website.

  11. My appology ,yes Sundance Maxxus, I get so caught up with tub repair and all the models, litterally it becomes irrelivant as the customer stated to me, he thought it was a Maxxus, yes it is a Hotsprings, went over my head!Happens,I am litterally swamped with more than 40 hottubs waiting repair,I am set till spring,But the fact is I work on all makes and they are mostly out of california & arizona & Florida.About 10% are from the northern tier. And most usually they are replacement of a pressure switch or heating element in most cases.

Of course they are mostly from CA, AZ or FL. That is where most hot tubs are made. 40 spas waiting for repairs. That sets you up until spring? 4 service calls a day and you would be done in 10 days.

  12. Looking for some advice. I have a 2000 HS Grandee which has developed 3 leaks in one year at a cost of about $1,000 each. Heater, ozonator, and cover have been replaced about 3 years ago. Has the tub reached its life expectancy and should we be considering purchasing a new one rather than keep repairing this one? My local dealer has agreed to repair and resell the tub if I choose to do so and split the profit with me. What is the best price on a 2011 Grandee with the ACE system?

what price were you quoted? it is kind of tough to give you the perfect number, not all dealers have the same margin obviously the high volume dealers can keep prices little lower because they do much more units per year. $10,500 - $13,000 is a good range, I know that doesn't exactly narrow it down for you, but there are plenty of factors besides dealer volume as well, for instance what is included in the price? cover lifter, chemicals, delivery/removal of your old spa, spa steps, stone surround option, mp3 player, etc. etc. some dealers will start extremely low then add on things as needed or some will package everything together as a "turn key" price and make deductions as necessary.

Not sure of an exact price yet. Going to the store to talk today. Just looking for a tub and salt system. Also, do you think it's worth it to keep my current tub? What is the life expectancy of the Grandee? With my current tub, two of the leaks were in the foam and one was in the motor compartment.

with it leaking your options are pretty limited, it sounds like the best option is the one you already mentioned where the dealer takes it away when he brings out the new one, fixes it up a bit and then resells it. Of course with all of his costs involved you probably won't come out with much, but hey what can you really expect out of a almost 11 year old used spa. I suppose if your feeling handy you could attempt to fix the leaks yourself and resell it to a private party, but then again its still an 11 year old tub and it won't bring much (in other words prob. not worth the hassle unless you have an abundance of free time), but a little bit of something is better than nothing in my opinion...good luck with your purchase, I'm sure you have seen some of the ACE threads on here, its really a great system and I am positive you will love it, along with all the other upgrades you will get with the new model :D

Is it leaking now? If so, and it is in the plumbing, trade it in. If not, you could wait for next time major repair comes. Unless you think all the upgrades are worth it. New controls. Nicer sculplting. New lights. DX Moto Jet. ACE system...
