  1. I am looking to buy some tablets for a Bromine system comparator. I have a choice which includes DPD1 or DPD3 tablets. Can anyone help me understand the difference and which I should be using? Thanks Toby
  2. Thanks for that. I can see why people say it takes nearly a year to get a system they're comfortable with.
  3. Thanks Starting with a PH 7.6, ALC 160, HOBr 1, 635litres: I added Sodium Bromide with the intention of creating a 20ppm bank. Using Ca(ClO)2 which says 7.5g per 1000 gallons raises it by 1ppm. (oops I read gallons for litres - hence the following is out by a factor of 5; assuming UK gallons) I guessed 19g would give me enough FC to react with the Bromine to give me approx 10ppm HOBr. I wasn't comfortable with that amount so divided the amount by 3. Half an hour after adding the Sodium Bromide I added 10g Ca(ClO)2 to produce HOBr. What confused me was that 1 hour later the HOBr read 2ppm with a negligent FC; So feeling more confident I reguessed the Ca(ClO)2 and added 20g; 1 hour later the FC read 10ppm and the HOBr read 10ppm! This does not make sense. 6 hours later the HOBr was still at 10 and FC had dropped to 5. The Ph had also gone up to 7.8. Are there rules of thumb for how long you should wait between adding particular chemicals? FC - Free Chlorine HOBr Hypobromous acid ALC - Alkilinity Ca(ClO)2 - Calcium Hypochlorite
  4. I have a created a bank of 30ppm using Sodium Bromide. I want to convert (shock) some of it to Hypobromous acid to achieve 5ppm using 'Chlorine Shock (calcium hypochlorite granules)' from www.swimmingpoolchemicals.co.uk. Can anyone identify the concentration of the granules? For 1000l spa how many grams do I need to add to achieve a 5ppm Hypobromous acid level? All suggestions appreciated Toby
  5. Hi I am looking for options for a Bromine system floating dispenser. I remember seeing a recommendation that any floater should have a lockable adjustable opening. I have seen the following dispensers referred to and am wondering about peoples experiences with them? Any UK available products would be especially interesting. floating puck spa frog floating penguin adjustable "deluxe" floater floating bromine tablet dispenser from http://www.hottubworks.com/cgi-bin/commerc...amp;key=MP1973E. It has a "locking" collar that seems to hold its setting without any problems. Also My shop suggested putting tablets in a floater in the filter basket. Is this good advice? My confidence in their advice has been shaken a bit already.
  6. The hypobromous acid level seems to drop rapidly over a day. Is this normal? I am using SPaGuard - Brominating Concentrate Formulae in a 835 litre / 220 US Gal Spa. (Assuming the DPD test/test strip reads the hypobromous acid level (sanitiser) and not Bromine level.) The hypobromous acid level dropped over 30 hours from HOBr 5 to close to 0. The Ph was 7.6 and Alkalinity 150. There were 2 uses in that time (2 people for 1 hour). My Spa is not fitted with an ozinator. Looking at the Forum I think the system I am using is closest to the 2 step system. I am concerned I am unwittingly creating a Bromine bank. When I shocked the Spa with "Spaguard Enhanced Spa Shock" Formulae The chlorine and hypobromous acid level went off the scale. I did put a whole sachet in which was designed for a 1000L not 835L Spa.
