  1. You're the perfect customer for Costco because you understand you're going to be the one to care for your spa and you understand that's part of the deal. There are tradeoffs to buying over the net or from the mass merchants and it's all about understanding that going in. Not all Costco/internet buyers realize that and those are the ones that aren't always so happy after the sale.

You are also the type of person that was maybe never seriously going to consider the dealer. That is why the Costco/HS thing makes sense to me. I doubt that all that many sales will be taken from the HS salespeople. I gotta believe most will be people who were looking to buy fom Costco or similar merchants in the first place.

Agree. I have friends who were considering going the Costco route because they liked my spa, but because they aren't like me (DIY types), and I really don't want to spend my free time baby sitting someone elses spa, I encouraged them to go to a dealer instead. They bought a nice refurbished 2003 Marquis from the factory outlet store and are very happy with it.

  2. I think you can add the consumer in on that list too. This is a welcome departure from some of the lesser offerings you get on the net where the quality is questionable and the warranty is best used as a napkin.

As far as the salesperson, I can understand your feelings though at this point I'm not so sure how much of a impact it'll have on the person on the dealer floor. How many of the customers who end up buying the Costco/HS spa would have bought a HS spa from the dealer? I imagine they're mainly looking for the people who never seriously consider the dealer due to pricing and perception that the deal is elsewhere (those who look to buy from the mass merchant or on the internet in the first place because that's their MO).

We have a winner!!. Give that man a cigar. :D

  3. Hopefully, the HotSpring dealer in your area wont service your spa!! B)

Why would I want to deal with those jokers? I'm perfectly capable of maintaining and servicing my own spa.

I'm never going to be a potential customer for a dealer. You aren't missing any sales by me going to Costco.

  4. Yeah thanks again, I ordered the part number that is in my manual, it just doesnt look the same. I will soak these in cleaner and also buy a new set. Good idea!!! I have a call in about the stereo. I am sure it is something easy!Man, I love the tub, I hope all is going well. I have had it since the first post, Sept 2005. I suppose ya'll aren't haveing any of the same problems I am having? We are on the North Coast of Oregon, use the tub quite a bit(kids do anyway) Really missing the sound..... wish me luck!!! Have a great day, I will come back and let ya know how it turns out!

    Shelly :P

I bet it's beautiful on the coast today....Sigh.... I live in the foothills east of Salem. Sunny and mid 50's right now.

Just FYI - www.spadepot.com is located in Olympia WA. Pretty much same week service for us.

My wife and I also love our spa, ours is 18 months old and no problems so far. The filters are just a maintenance issue. I have well water and have found it works best to swap my filters every 2 months but that will vary for everyone depending on usage and water type.

Let us know how it goes, Good luck!

  5. Shelly,

Sharkman is right, it is better to have a set of extra filters on hand, then you can just rotate them out as needed.

Here are the correct Part # for the filters - by brand.

    Clarathon - FC0315

    Unicel - 6CH-47

    Pleatco - PTL47W

    I get mine at

    www.spadepot.com - $48.95 per pair

but I have also had good luck ordering from

    www.rhtubs.com

  6. Shelly,

If you haven't already, do what Sharkman009 said and reset the power. If you still have the 3 flashing lights, power off then take one of the filters out. Power on. If the 3 flashing lights go out you need to properly clean or replace your filters. If the 3 flashing lights return, you probably have a defective flow switch, call the 800 number in your manual and they will arrange service.

  7. I am about to purchase a new hot tub, but so far, I have gotten very mixed answers, regarding insulation. Arctic Spas for one, say that there system of insulation is the best-which is the floor and tub are sprayed but that there is a cavity open around the plumbing and motors. They claim that it makes it alot easier to work on and the heat off the motor heats the water as well, which cuts down on power. They also claim with a power failure at -20F, that there pipes and motors won't freeze for 5 days.

When you go to another dealer they claim the only way to go is full insulation.

    What dio you guys think?

    Mike

  8. Where are you finding that control for $540.00? With the topside the best price I have seen would put you over $600.

One of the advantages with Balboa is if the control goes bad years down the road you can replace a circuit board for $200 instead of replacing the whole control.

    Here:

    http://www.hottubessentials.com/hydroquip-...38-spa-pack.asp

They also sell circuit boards for Hydro-Quip controls $200 - $300.

  9. Is that good or bad?

Probably neither. Both Hydro-Quip and Gecko have been in the Spa business for a long time. Cost to replace the the entire Pack and topside control (out of warranty) would be about $540 - Parts only. The topside control by itself is less than $130.

If I had to repair these things for a living I would probably be a Balboa fan. Their web-site is really good, Instruction cards, Manuals, Tech bullitens ect. I like the look/features of the M-7 stuff. I see they went to a Balboa Control on the Platinum II Costco spa.

    NightRyder

  10. Does your spa have the same control as the one on that web site? This is kind of weird as some of the features are the same as the ones we have woked on but some are different. The control on that web site looks like a Gecko control and all of the Costco spas we have repaired had Balboa controls on them.

Same control - The pack in mine is a Hydro-Quip CS-6230, I think the topside control is their ECO-3 model.

  11. Costco sells more than one style of spa and in our area the spas that we have worked on did not have a dedicated circulation pump. How old is your spa?

Unless they just recently changed the spas the ones being sold through our Costco come with two jet pumps and one does the filtering on low speed.

The Platinum I and II both have dedicated 24 hr. circulation pumps. If anyone wants the specs/warranty/manual etc. you can find them here.....

  12. See this is a perfect example of what I described. I didnt say anything about your purchase.

That was in response to this

"Look I realize nobody likes to be told that the product they purchased is not a good product."

Sounds like "saying" something about the spa I bought to me, but what do I know....

  13. I have worked as a warranty center for three of the spa manufacturers that have built spas for Costco. Caldera, Jacuzzi and Hydro spa. As far as the number of spas sold out there the number sold through Costco pales in comparison to the rest of the industry.

It would be interesting to see the numbers. Costco has over 400 stores in the USA. Last year my local Costco was allotted 100 of the Elite Spas according to the manager. I believe they sold them all because my sister-in-law wanted one in late summer and they told her they had sold-out for the year. She called all the Costco stores within 100 miles (4, I think) and they told her the same. I have no way of knowing if all the stores received the same allotment, but if so, that would be a lot of spas.

  14. Yeah, everyone can have an opinion, but in this type of forum you have to qualify them. I'm not saying that anyone in competition with Costco can't have a valid opinion, but it has to be taken in the context that dealers want to stay in business and have a considerable interest in promoting the product they carry, spa salesmen, like anyone working on commission want to make money. Costco in the spa business poses a threat to both.

What I see here so far is satisfied consumers on one side and unhappy spa business related posters on the other. How funny is that? If someone considering a Costco spa buys something else I have absolutley no problem with it, doesn't effect me in any way. I'll wish them well and hope they are as pleased with their spa as I am. On the other hand, why can't the owner of a "discount" spa post their positive experience without being subjected to snide remarks from the other side?

Nothing personal Sharkman, but I could really care less what you think of my purchase, I outgrew any need for that kind of validation 20 years ago. I did my research, I know what I bought, and I'm happy with it, in the end that's all that matters.

    NightRyder

  15. Not true, you know how the expereince has been for yourself, it's a sample of one and statistically it can not be used be draw anty real conclusions other than to show what your indiviual experience has been. We're not telling you your spa is wrong for you but I hope no one runs out to get it based on your opinion alone any more than they should necessarily buy whatever spa Guzz, Sharkman, Brulan or anyone else preferred (even if their sample experience went beyond 1 spa).

Couldn't agree more. All I can do is relate my experience.

I think those of us that own the tub have tried to provide a real world assessment of the merits and short falls associated purchasing this tub from Costco. First Timer's posts in this and other threads relating to this tub ignore the tubs merits and exaggerate the deficiencies; his last post just degenerated into an offensive rant and did nothing to enhance his position: IMO. If anyone wants and honest opinion from an owner whether they should consider purchasing this spa they are welcome to post their questions or PM me.
