  1. Okay, I just saw something that has me a bit confused.

In your other thread, you say that you can buy a new Royal Spa Emporer for $7700.

    http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9692

Why not just buy that spa new, instead of the used one? Then you are comparing a new Royal Spa to a new Grenada. It's easier to make an apples to apples comparison. Plus, you'd get the new warranty and the dealer support.

Is the used Royal Spa that you're looking at a fancier model than the new one you were considering? Why did you decide to buy the new Grenada over the new Royal Spa in the first place? If you were comparing the used Royal Spa to a new Royal Spa, then I'd say look at the used to save money. But if you weren't going to buy a Royal Spa in the first place, and the only reason you are considering the Royal Spa now is because it's cheap, then I would say that you should rethink that decision. Buy the spa that you are going to be happy with for the next 10 years. It's a long-term purchase, you might as well get what you want, instead of buying something based on price. A few years from now, that $3000 you saved isn't going to feel like much if you aren't happy with your spa.

If you do go used, offer the guy $4000. There's a limited market for used spas, so you can probably talk him down. ;)

Thanks for the comments...and you are correct, the main reason I was considering the used Royal was because it was 3K cheaper and it was only 2 years old. If price were not an issue I would buy the Grenada. I like the layout better and the dealer has an excellent reputation.

  2. I was jut about to buy a New Reflections (Vita) Grenada for about 7.5K..and then I found a 2 year, barely used, Royal Sultan for 5K from a private owner. The guy said he paid about 11K for it..which seems like a rip off but the used price seems good. Its in perfect condition and has had no problems with it.

The question is do I spend almost 3K more to get a new spa or take advantage of getting a used spa and save about 3K?

    Interested in opinions.

  3. GL from what I have seen is pretty overpriced expecially after Emerald bought them. I had personally sold this tub not long ago and had to stay away due to the lackluster story, nothing special to talk about and what seemed to be a price competitve to spas considered to be in the highest quality of the industry.

I like Reflections because you can get a good deal and FF. People who sell non insulated spas will argue thermolock but to me air has an R value of 0 and would NEVER personally own one so I would never recommend it.

I also know the rep for reflections who lives in Ohio and bleeds customer service so I know you would be taken care of.

(Does not mean I know which dealer you are looking at or care, just saying you wouldnt have to worry about not getting warranty or anything because the Reflections rep lives in Ohio.)

What part of Ohio are you referring to ...becasue I do as well. (Cincinnati) I have heard good stuff about the dealer as well. (Eastgate Pools and spa) I actually am down to Reflections, Coleman and Royal. All three of the dealers seem very reputable.

  4. I was really looking at Jacuzzi but neither of my dealers really have it together. Once dealer also sells furniture and doesn't know that much about spas. The "REAL" Jacuzzi dealer in San Diego is sometimes open and other days is closed without even hanging a sign saying if he'll be back later or not. I'm still in the market and looking. It was funny that the other day my Sundance dealer called to see how things were going and I let her know I was wet testing other spas and she immediately lowered her previous "best" price by 800 dollars on the Marin. Classic...... I'll keep searching.

    Baja.

I have to be honest, shopping for a Hot tub has been one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had buying something...much more than buying a used car!

  5. I don't know yet. It's supposed to ship from the factory today. We came really, really close to buying a jacuzzi. We got scared off when a friend that is in the pool/spa supply business told us about problems getting parts for jacuzzi. I shopped at a dealer, but was going to buy through them, through my work(they don't sell retail). I was excited about getting the spa at their cost. Then I found out they had quit dealing with them, because of the difficulty with the parts. This was a couple years ago, so things might have improved. My friend sent out emails to a couple friends throughout the country, they sent her emails back showing how their jacuzzi orders had dropped drastically. Something about them switching to parts suppliers in Mexico. I was suprised to find out that Jacuzzi spas is not the same company as Jacuzzi pumps. In fact, jacuzzi spas don't even use jacuzzi brand pumps. I will say this, I haven't seen a bad word about them on this forum. This may have been an isolated incident that has been resolved. I hesitate to say anything negative about a co. on this forum, since there are jacuzzi dealers here. At the same time, I feel obligated to pass along any knowledge I might have. If you do a wet test, all your questions might be answered. For the $500, I would go for the 365. Good Luck.

Thanks a bunch. The reservation you have is the same as mine. I do like the dealer though and he has carried them for years and says service calls are neglible so I might take the chance. Just curious, which model of Artesian did you get and how much did you pay for it?

  6. There are a few more differences than that. I also shopped jacuzzi recently, but ended up with an Artesian. The 365 has a circulation pump and diverters, the 280 does not. The 365 has more filtration.

It has a footwell for foot massage. It also has less jets, but the same motors I believe, so I believe the therapy would be stronger. Have you wet tested both models? If you are set on a jacuzzi, that would be my next step. You might, also, consider if you want a circulation pump and diverters to adjust the flow to different seats.

Thanks for the advice...it sounds like it may be worth the 500 even though I am giving up some space. And I am not set on Jacuzzi. That was a late entry to my list but jumped to the top based on the reputation and price point. I also looked at the grand cayman. Are you happy with your artesian?

  7. I am first time spa buyer and am looking at a Jacuzzi the above models. Can anyone give me their opinions of one over the other. Basically the 280 is a little bigger but the sales guy says the 365 is much better and the price is only about 500 more. Thoughts? Is it truely a significantly better tub and if so why?

  8. I am new to the forum and about to purchase my first Hot Tub. What I realized was, wow, they are expensive and how you can not get a straight answer from any dealer. Its worse than buying a user car. Everyone says they are the best. My goals were to get a big, decent hot tub, with some nice lighting and that is an energy efficient. I really dont care alot about the number of jets or pumps, etc. I absolutely dont want to spend more than 8K. I was initially thinking I could spend 5K and meet my requirements but I now rethinking that.

With that being said, I have narrowed it down to 3 Hot tubs.

-A Calspa Avalon that is from a major Hot Tub retailer in my city that tends to have slimy, slick talking salespeople. They were offering my this for 7500 (which they said is a "killer deal") and is the best waranty out there.

-A Gulf Coast LX11000 that is much cheaper and is sold out of a wharehouse for 5500.

-Or a Royal Spa Emperor which is sold from a small Hot tub Store which has carried them for years and been around for years that I tend to trust more. I know someone who knows the owner and they knocked off 700 of the sale price. So I can get if for 7700 with everything. (They claim it is extremely efficient and doesnt do alot of fancy stuff (2 speed pumps, computer controls, etc) which keeps the maintenance down and longevity up. This sounds good and I was just about to go this route but I saw some comments on the net that bashed them. For example they dont have skimmers, insulation method is bad, etc. So now I am wondering if it is just a small outfit and is not a really good spa design and just more puffery.

Does any one have any thoughts or experience they can share?
