  1. Just curious, I had to change out my bulb in the pool light housing, (did it no problem) what is to happen if water was to leak through the seal and reach the bulb, obviously water and electricity dont mix, is there a special shut off switch besides the breaker that would shut off if water were to reach it?? Would anyone be seriously injured if water were to reach it (death) dont want to sound stupid but electricty scares me to death, not to mention when its that close to water. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks! !

  2. Trying to get some clarity here?? I was under the impression that sodium bi-carbonate raises alkalinity, not pH. Sodium carbonate (soda ash) raises pH, not alkalinity. Acid lowers pH if "pooled" and acid lowers alkalinity if its poured directly into the pool in a "funnel" technique??? Is this information wrong?

Which would be the ideal way to balance the water if you have a high pH and a low alkalinity reading?

Just a few "chemical" problems I have been fuzzy on, thanks for any help yet again guys (and gals)!!!

  3. Other than taking a water sample to a pool store to test for metals, I'm not sure what you should do. I would just pre-dissolve the Cal-Hypo to avoid the problem. If the pool store does show metals in the pool, then you can use a sequestrant to ensure that they don't stain if the pH of the pool were to go up for whatever reason (which is what usually causes the metal to stain). The fact that you have a heater and that it might have a copper heat exchanger (if it's a newer heater, it's probably a titanium heat exchanger) doesn't mean you have copper in the water unless the pH of your pool got too low or you did something to cause water in the heater to become acidic such as put Trichlor tablets in the skimmer or poured acid in the skimmer.

  4. Whenever the "undissolved" Cal-hypo settles and rests on the bottom of the pool, it creates a black stain, only where the cal-hypo sits, no where else.

Im assuming its from metals? Related to a heater?

Whats weird about this "stain" is that after about 24-48 hours the stain(s) completely disappear as if it never even happened?

Can anybody tell me why this happens?? Thanks in advance!
