  1. I just passed my 1 year anniversary with my nordic xl and love it, no problems. I really admire the depth on this tub. It does cost money to operate, i live in nh and we have some of the highest electric rates in the country. It costs me at least $30-$40 a month to operate. Unfortunately luxuries often do cost money. The entire belly of my tub is sprayed with closed cell foam (a very good insulator). If a comparable tub with the same amount of gallons would only cost $10 a month to operate in new england i would like to see that. I still think the best thing that can be done to save $$ is to make sure you have your cover secured and/or upgraded and protect the tub from the wind.

Personally, stuffing additional insulation in makes me nervous, moisture/mold concens, pump ventilation, etc Would like to know if the benefit is really worth it. Happy tubbing all.

  2. Capt, if you get the shelves let us know how you like them. They do not give them aways so i have been using a small table.

I hooked up a couple of outdoor speakers for my tub on my deck for $90, works off the stereo in the porch. Unfortuantely got some complaints from my neighbor though, gotta turn them up loud to hear over the roar of the Nordic Jets :).

  3. Dave,

Is the 24/7 pump available for after purchase?

Is it slow and quiet for calm while in the tub?

Last, is it simple to install or must I leave that to Nordic?

Check with your dealer, I am sure it is, i think there is probably a feed from the spa pack to connect it. Basically it runs during nonuse times, when your tub heater is on and during filtration cycles instead of your main pump. It does not run when you are in the tub, unless the temp drops and you do not have your main jet on. dave.

You dont like the drink holder on your crown?? If you have two people in it it will not work??

    Thaks 104

Well, it works ok with two people but i just dont trust it, unless i am drinking water, one accident and i will be draining the tub. Too far away from my deep seat anyway. I like to keep my drink resting just outside the tub when not in use :)

    Thanks Dave

I was about to order one.we are the only ones who use the spa and i keep my drink there by the filter.

I will look into it before i order one.

Hows the family and the crown doing??

Hard to believe i have had it more than a year already, getting ready for my favorite tubbing season. By the way how did your new cover work out?

  6. :(We have recently bought a used hydro spa fitness vitalizer model 2 person hot tub. It worked fine when we bought it However after It was drained We got it home set it up and refilled it and now the pump evidently is not working correctly. The motor turns and the heat comes on but the water is not circulating. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone ever owned one of this tubs?

I would suspect an airlock at first, did you fill the spa through the skimmer? check the troubleshooting section of the manual if you have one. good luck and i hope you get it running.

  7. Thanks for reply. I have 4 buttons (Jets / Light / Cool / Warm).

My directions say press heat then light to set mode and it does show me 3 possible modes. I know I had to switch from economy to standard to heat the tub.

Pressing heat then jets, the directions say I can set filter cycles. My options in filter cycles on the pad offer F1..F8.

I tried pressing and holding the light button and I merely cycle through the lighting options, no matter how long I hold it. I do see in the directions that the cireculating pump with the ozone generator is supposed to run 24 hours. Thus I'm confused. I do notice however that in the Standard Mode, the unit periodically comes on to maintain heat, thus I guess filtering the water too?

One last question, the plastic drink holder floats off when too many people get in raising the level. Thoughts on how to best handle that welcome please...

I am not sure what you mean by pressing "heat", you must have a different controller than mine. Did you order the circulation pump with your tub? I do not have a standard/economy mode which leads me to believe your unit might not be equipped with a circ. pump. not sure, you should ask your dealer to go over the operation with you. I never see "F1,etc" on my control panel either which leads me to believe yours may be a different setup.

Do not use that skimmer cover as a drink holder unless maybe you have one person in the tub or you risk spilling a drink in the tub, they should just eliminate the drink cup indentations. They do however sell some shelves that you can mount on the outside of the bug which is a better way to rest a drink. With my setup i just use one of those outdoor furniture side tables on my deck adjacent to the nordic.

  8. Installed our Nordic XL with Factory Balboa Ozone and we're up to 100 temperature. I have 3 questions:

    1. The manual says we should see FC for "continuous filtration" but we only see F1-8. When the unit cycles down there is no water movement. I note in the manual a comment about a turn off for a 30 minute period during hot weather and we're at 82 in the sun today. But sees the same at night when we're at 45. How do we get CF or is something malfunctioning?

To set continuous filtration you need to set the time of hours to 12, hold down the light button until you see a number then up it to 12.

    2. Once up to temperature are we best leaving it at Standard or Economy Mode?

My nordic crown xl does not have an economy mode, did you get a 24 hr circulation pump?

    3. There is on LED that is out. Will that be an easy job for the dealer to fix?

Not sure what that involves, definately call your dealer and have them take care of it, and make sure you take advantage of there startup instructions or spa school if they offered it as part of your sale.

    Good luck with your tub.

Beyond the questions, the tub is extremely comfortable including the cover lifter.

  9. Thats a tough one, but the first thing i would do is find out why the breaker keeps tripping. I have lost power a number of times in my town over the last year since i bought my tub and the breaker does not trip during the power outage. When the power comes back on the tub fires up and runs at 95 degrees flashing on the display. I have a seperate GFCI next to the tub made by spa builders (SBCG?), it also has an audible alarm should the GFCI trip due to a fault which is good to have during the winter months.

After that is fixed you could look into a low temperature alarm system, which has a submersible probe. Should the spa fall below say 80 degrees it could call you or page you. Not sure if they have them but my friend has something similar for his cottage for if the heat fails or there is a prolonged power outage.

just some ideas, good luck. Soaking after snowmobiling sounds like a great idea.

  10. Regarding your very positive experience with the Crown XL, we're interested, saw one today but wonder if 40" might be high water versus the 35" Crown II. Thoughts?

I am a happy xl owner as well, the depth of the xl was key in my buying decision, it is deep but there are different levels of seats which works fine for my kids. Keep in mind the tub wont be filled all the way to the top, there would be some displacement/rise however depending on the number of occupants.

  11. you should also email nordic, it might take a few days for your email to filter down to a tech but they are very helpful. I was able to get some nice diagrams for my crown xl through a tech which was a nice supplement to the owners manual. good luck.

    Hello,

I have a Nordic Sport Spa, and I have lost my book and the filter light won't turn off. I removed the filter and washed it with a high pressure hose. I read some where that I may need to soak it in a solution, does anyone know what this solution is? I know it means there is an issue with the filter, I just don't know what it means!!!

  12. I live in Minnesota, and am thinking about purchasing my first hot tub. Today we looked at Sundance, Marquis, and Jacuzzi products. Liked them all, but Jacuzzi is at the top of the list right now. Are there any special considerations for installing a hot tub in a cold climate? Features I should look for? Brands that offer better insulation/energy efficiency? Thanks!

Put it in a protected location from wind if possible, get a good cover, use a gfci with an alarm/trip, it is going to cost you some money to heat it no matter what, but a luxury does cost money, enjoy.

  13. It is the most ideal to place it as close as possible to an exit door from your house. Your municipality is on top of the regulations, in addition to the electrical regulations that many towns follow there are also a few building code regulations that many towns overlook, including mine. You should double check the height of the windows in relation to the spa and see if you meet the minimum height clearance even though you might not meet the horizontal distance to the house/windows. If you really have your heart set on this location, check your windows, they are likely not tempered glass but i believe if you change them to tempered $$ glass that would meet code. good luck and make sure you talk to your patio paver about slope on the patio where the tub is going, to minimize an uneven waterline

  14. I have a crown xl, i am tall so it was the best option for me. I am a no frills soaker, i sit in the deep seat in the nordic xl put my arms up on the rounded sides which is nice and comfy, put both my feet on the foot jets..ahhhh. think i will head out for a soak. :D

The round is pretty comfortable like other posters have stated, one caveat is i poured a round conc. pad which was a little more difficult to do. good luck and i think you will like your nordic tub, whichever model you choose. one last thing, my kids love whirlpool mode on the xl, it spins them around the tub.

  15. Got tub running a few months ago and love it!! :D But I HATE my electric bill that SKYROCKETED since I hooked up my tub.

Here is a quick summary of my electricity usage:

    MONTH......AVE USE PER DAY.....MONTHLY USE

    Sept..............10.......................... 328

    November..... 14............................390

    December......38...........................1280

    Feb............... 37.......................... 1190

I live in NH on MA line, 1,000 - 1,300kwh per month in the winter does not seem out of line for electrical usage for a single family home and i think is pretty average for the winter, did you have any christmas lights up this holiday season? Blower motors for furnaces use a lot of electricity to. Like a previous poster noted, without being able to compare the houses consumtion from the previous year makes it kind of tough. My guess is your tub accounts for a third of your electrical increase.

  16. It will depend on the concrete you use, if you are pouring it and mixing it yourself then check the sides of the bag, it will have time/strength information. You can buy more expensive high early strength concrete mix as well. I think several days is a good rule of thumb for a hot tub depending on how thick your pad will be. Concrete generally reached maximum strength after 28 days, this is usually when it is tested in labs for failure yield strength. good luck and dont forget some reinforcing mesh.
