  1. Great Escape was great for us!
  2. Are you a DIY kind of person? When we first got our 27 ft. round AGP we wanted a deck and being a fearless DIY couple we bought a nice Skil saw and created our own deck design. This wasn't hard to design but the physical labor in the Fla. summer sun was pretty demanding. Our pool was sunk about 2 ft. into the ground by the installer. So we used 4X4X8ft. pressure treated post - cut them in half and buried them about two feet into the ground in pairs along the edge of our pool about four feet apart. In other words, our pool wall uprights are four feet apart on the pool wall so at every upright we buried a 4X4 about eight inches from the pool wall and then about 28 inches further out we buried a second 4X4 post. To connect the posts we attached 2X4 joist hangers and then put 2X4 four ft. boards into the joist hangers so that they would be level with the tops of the 4X4 posts. When completed we had a very structurally sound pressure treated frame all round our pool ready to receive top boards. Top boards were 4 ft. long that we just cut and then nailed close together all around the frame. One the side furthest from our house wall we got creative and extended the deck out about 16 ft. to create a "sun deck" surrounded by a rail. The remainder of this circular deck was four feet wide - it worked very, very well and when stained it looked pretty nice. I guess it took us about a month or even a bit more to buy, measure, cut and nail all of this together but it lasted 15 years and was still in good shape when we decided we wanted something different and so we tore it all down and hauled it away about five years ago. Rough calculations are that including the sundeck we used about 50 4X4X8ft posts and about 30 2X4s to build the frame or sub-structure and about 240 2X4X8s for the top boards for the deck - you can see that the wife and I did a LOT of measuring, cutting and nailing. I will root around and can probably find digital pics and if you are interested I will try to post a couple. While we were younger and our kids were living at home we really enjoyed have a wide deck that completely surrounded our pool - not that it's just the two of us we are glad to not have the deck. Hope our personal story is helpful.
