My brother called me and asked me what I do to my pool as it is crystal clear and his above ground is cloudy and he can't get it to clear. I went down with my test kit and took the readings..
His pool is about 18000 gallons
free chlorine was low at a .5 on my scale
Tot. chlorine however read at a 5 +
Total Alk I think was off the chart at 210-220 ppm
Cya seemed low at 25 or less, thats as far as my test goes.
unfortunately (spank me) I did not take a ph reading as it started to rain heavy.
Also we have had a lot of rain lately.
The cloudyness is not green.
What do you think...Thanks TNT
I opened my pool last about 10 days ago. I was dissapointed when I took the cover off as it was green and the bottom and walls were covered with scum. I put in 10 gallons of liqid chlorine, (not bleach) and vacumed and now she is crystal clear. we had a warm wet winter, (lots of rain).
Now I tested the pool yesterday and got "0" reading on chlorine so I put another 1 1/2 gallons of chlorine in last night at ABOUT 6PM today about 4pm I got less than a .5 on the test.
I tested for stablizer and the dot never dissapeared, the water for the test was pretty much clear.
Do I add stablizer or what would be the recomendation?
Thanks all.. TNT
yes the pool is full, and even with the main drain open and only 1 return it eventually runs out of water in the pump and I get air.
this is becoming very anoying. I have to leave for work so I have to shut down the pump. arggggg
An update and I will try to get this as non confusing as possable.
I was running the pump on filter using the 2 skimmers and out to 2 returns. ave. pressure 8-10 lbs
I switched the filter to recirc. seemed to have less swirling in the pump basket and pressure at about 12-14 lbs
next I urned on the maindrain with the skimmers and got even less churning in the pump basket. 7-8 lbs pressure.
next I opened only one return and the water in the basket was almost a calm streem seemed to be very little air. but when I turned of the main drain and went bck to the skimmers I got the bad churning and air.
I Just opened my pool ths week, I had to install a new motor on my pump. when my I run it on filter I noticed small air bubbles comming out of the return and The water in the pump basket seems to be churning and after about 2 hours I have no pressure and barely any water coming thru the pump. but lots of air bubbles. all the pipe above ground is new and there are no visable leaks. I am stumped.
I did have to take the snd out of the filter and put it back in beause when I tried to move the filter tank it turned onto its side and moved the inner part of the filter.
I have a 18 x 36 inground sand filter 1 1/2 hp haywerd pump
Thanks for any help
I have a Jacuzzi hot tub, about 6 years old.
When I first start the tub it cycles on and off about every 30 seconds after 5 min it runs fine while its heating the water, it gets to about 95 and I get an error like Over Heating? Then when I re-set it it will continue to cycle on and off every 30 seconds or so.
I am baffeled, has anyone ever heard of this?
I keep thinking that the green haze is some sort of algie, that is why I had been keeping the chlorine so high, but the level is not comming down hardly at all and yet the green remains.. there also seems to be greenish brown settlment over night on the fool bottom, I ran my Tiger shark so the pool got a little more cloudy.
I agree something is strange, I think I will take a sample to the pool store, what testsing should I ask for?
I was using the Taylor dial, maybe I read it wrong..anyway I guessed on the cya The chemical was past the 20 mark and at the top before the dot went away completely.

Ok I am back
Sorry went away for the 4th.
I now have a good test kit, I checked it against my test strips and they are surprisingly accurate.
Hardness 100
T.C. 10 I added 1 1/2 gal chlorox yesterday morning
F.C. 10
P.H. 7.0 showed 6.5 on test strip
Total Alc. 40
CYA 0- 5
did a saturation chart (not sure how to use the results) It was 1.2
water is still greenish blue but now it is also cloudy can barely see the deep end bottom
also my heaters are solar (plastic)
and I have not used an algiside this season
all I use is Aqua Chem Clarifier 2 times
Richard
I also should note that I did not seem to be having this problem, until I started using the auto chlorinator with 3" pucks that I stopped using last season, I figured the CYA was so low what could it hurt...
Hope this helps...
I do have a better test kit but the stablizer test chemical was gone...
Richard
Sorry I missed the ph, It was 6.8
I have not used any algaecides.
also last season my cya was verry high and I had to keep my T.C. levels at 12-14 in order for them to work, so I was surprised that the CYA was almost at "0", To winterize I drained down below the skimmers, but we had a wet winter that added a lot of water to the pool that had to be pumped out 2 times when it got to the top of the pool. That may have lowered it?
my pool water has a green haze to it and I just can not seem to get rid of it. 2 days ago it seemed more blue than green but not clear. now green haze not so clear and some green particals on the bottom and steps. any Idea's
