Yes, we did wet tests. The dealer we went with has been in business for 30+ years, and they are good family friends.

The price was 8000 for the CA Atlantic Spa w/ stereo. I have no idea if it is a good deal. I tried a master spa and it seemed so complicated. same with caldera. Any thoughts?

Most use similar spa controls; electronic controls for heat/pumps/lights with manual diverters to increase or reduce flow to certain areas of the spa.

Based on the forums, Cal Spa does not a very positive quality reputation nor the best corporate response to pleas for help. I can only speak in generalities, but here and other forums, I have observed probably more posts against Cal Spa quality than most with one exception. That said, if your local dealer has been around a while and you like/have a comfort level with him/her I can't provide you a compelling reason not to go with it. If you have been mesmerized by the TV option, you might want to rethink it. TV's and radios generally have a short warranty in relation to the spa itself for a reason. I really was more curious what you thought was complicated about other spas in relation to Cal as that to me would not be a reason to exclude other brands from consideration (you learn how to use the spa). The wet test should drive the decision in my opinion as a consumer who did wet test. Apologies for the confusion.

Well said Spa-Man, there are a lot of dealers competing with cal-spa, I think Stl-Trex is affiliated with Arctic. Pretending to be a consumer why else would a consumer waste his time on a forum that don't know squat about our industry.

You will still need to clean filters, change water, wipe surfaces, check the balance of the water regularly. ETC. Please look into this. With this being said, I really like certain salt sanitizing sytems(automatic bromine generators) because it is easier than other systems available for you to keep your water clean. I would never tell someone it is maintenance free.... it is not a "cure all". If someone tells you that, and you do not do anything to check up on your spa, you will have service issues close on the horizon and their service dept. will benifit from your un-cared-for spa.
Veronica Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Hi, I too am new here today, prompted to join the forum after being "burned" by Hydro Spa for four months on my very first spa, I still have to admit, I want to buy a new spa ASAP because it's true, that when it worked for three weeks, it did prove to be a fabulous way to relax and sooth stressed muscles. I am convinced the right spa, with low maintainance and reputable service has got to be a great investment condidering what I pay for a massage every two weeks, I could save and enjoy twice as much twice a day! I have visited the local dealers right down the street for Master Spa and D1. Is Cal Spa comprable. Which offers the best luxury with the lowest maintainance worries?

I think Cal has come a long ways from it's former self to help not only its customers with a better product than in the past, but also to us repair guys that used to have so much trouble getting parts. It seems improvement has been made, at least for me. There a huge company that may have been suffering some growing pains.

I think most of us will concur that while at first spas may seem complicated, once you have your dealer test your water and get a water treatment program worked out for you it will be simple. The operational aspect gets pretty easy as well. After a couple nice soaks in the spa the average owner figures out how all the diverter valves work and which jets they control, and which pumps control certain jetted areas of the spa. My eleven year old daughter has been operating spas since she was about six with no problems at all. One comment I will throw out there about LCD TV's in spas, don't consider it. It is a situation that will be trouble sooner than later. Waterfalls and outside lights, I never use them.
