I have been lurking for awhile now, and have noticed some topics are quite hot. I will be receiving my tub soon, and hopefully I will be able to get help or insite when it arrives. I am very much a Newbie, and hope for understanding from you all.

This is one crazy spa forum, I'll say that. What kind of spa are you getting?

By the way, I'm a 20 year HotSpring Spa dealer. The reason I say that is because some of the folks on here pretend to be something they're not. There are some real nutcases floating about.

Without starting WW3, we decided on a Cal Spa. We went with the dealer, and tub that best suited our needs, and wants. Yes, we did wet tests. The dealer we went with has been in business for 30+ years, and they are good family friends.

Oh, you have started WWIII, but not on my end! Get ready for the fireworks when some of the regulars show up.

Enjoy your spa, clean your filter, keep the pH balanced, and all should go well! Hot tubs are a great way to relax and reconnect.

Cal Spas is at least a financially stabel spa maker. They're going to be coming into some extra $$ pretty soon.

I think I am going to buy a cal spa also. The price was 8000 for the CA Atlantic Spa w/ stereo. I have no idea if it is a good deal. I tried a master spa and it seemed so complicated. same with caldera. Any thoughts?

Not challenging your decision, but curious what you found to be complicated? Most use similar spa controls; electronic controls for heat/pumps/lights with manual diverters to increase or reduce flow to certain areas of the spa.

What problems do you see with the cal spa? I have not yet paid or taken delivery. do the bromine generators work? They said it is the easiest spa to keep clean and maintanance free.

Complicated, in what way?

Scott,

I am a consumer, not a dealer. Based on the forums, Cal Spa does not a very positive quality reputation nor the best corporate response to pleas for help. I can only speak in generalities, but here and other forums, I have observed probably more posts against Cal Spa quality than most with one exception. That said, if your local dealer has been around a while and you like/have a comfort level with him/her I can't provide you a compelling reason not to go with it. If you have been mesmerized by the TV option, you might want to rethink it. TV's and radios generally have a short warranty in relation to the spa itself for a reason. I really was more curious what you thought was complicated about other spas in relation to Cal as that to me would not be a reason to exclude other brands from consideration (you learn how to use the spa). The wet test should drive the decision in my opinion as a consumer who did wet test. Apologies for the confusion.

If you base it on a few comlpaints that are soly the fault of a dealer that has dropped the ball and a few sales people who sell against Cal Spas then yes your statement of Cal Spas would be accurate, however again I say this: the corporate response you speak of is false. The problems is this , if they dont know theres a problem then they cannot respond.I know first hand that as soon they know theres is a problem they are allover it. Now as for the reason for even one negative feedback is because Cal Spas lends its name to be used as the store name (such as Cal Spas of Denver) so any one problem gets branded as a corporate problem instead of a local dealer who did not take care of it. Most spa stores have a separate name than that of the factory so the complaints do not transfer to the manufacturer of the product it stays at a local level. This being said Cal Spas is able to find out about things that otherwise may have been swept away by the dealer. This in fact gives Cals Spas the right to say "WE HAVE THE BEST SERVICE IN THE BUSINESS" as a maunfacturer.

There are hundreds of excellent Cal Spa dealers that take 100% care of each and every customer after the sale and potentially as with any brand of spa there may a few bad dealers but the percentage now days is nil.

Scott you will enjoy that tub for years to come and a dealer that has been around 30 years with a good reputation is a very good thing to have on your side. Happy soaking!!!

Well said Spa-Man, there are a lot of dealers competing with cal-spa, I think Stl-Trex is affiliated with Arctic. Pretending to be a consumer why else would a consumer waste his time on a forum that don't know squat about our industry.

Nothing is maintenance free. You will still need to clean filters, change water, wipe surfaces, check the balance of the water regularly. ETC. Please look into this. With this being said, I really like certain salt sanitizing sytems(automatic bromine generators) because it is easier than other systems available for you to keep your water clean. I would never tell someone it is maintenance free.... it is not a "cure all". If someone tells you that, and you do not do anything to check up on your spa, you will have service issues close on the horizon and their service dept. will benifit from your un-cared-for spa.

Hi, I too am new here today, prompted to join the forum after being "burned" by Hydro Spa for four months on my very first spa, I still have to admit, I want to buy a new spa ASAP because it's true, that when it worked for three weeks, it did prove to be a fabulous way to relax and sooth stressed muscles. I am convinced the right spa, with low maintainance and reputable service has got to be a great investment condidering what I pay for a massage every two weeks, I could save and enjoy twice as much twice a day! I have visited the local dealers right down the street for Master Spa and D1. Is Cal Spa comprable. Which offers the best luxury with the lowest maintainance worries?

Disavowal:

stl-rex is in no way affiliated with Arctic Spas except that he bought our product.

I think Cal has come a long ways from it's former self to help not only its customers with a better product than in the past, but also to us repair guys that used to have so much trouble getting parts. It seems improvement has been made, at least for me. There a huge company that may have been suffering some growing pains.

EARTH TO SCOTT. You made the statement that Masters and Caldera's are complicated. Both sti-rex and spatech asked in what way and your answers were illogical. Try to focus, stay on topic, and make some common sense. Things tend to work more effectively when those things happen.

I think most of us will concur that while at first spas may seem complicated, once you have your dealer test your water and get a water treatment program worked out for you it will be simple. The operational aspect gets pretty easy as well. After a couple nice soaks in the spa the average owner figures out how all the diverter valves work and which jets they control, and which pumps control certain jetted areas of the spa. My eleven year old daughter has been operating spas since she was about six with no problems at all. One comment I will throw out there about LCD TV's in spas, don't consider it. It is a situation that will be trouble sooner than later. Waterfalls and outside lights, I never use them.

Why has this thread gotten new life when it was over a year old?
