Problems With Masterspa Downeast

I have had a Down East Exeter SE model made by Masterspa for about 2 years now...the dealer that I purchased it from no longer carries Masterspa, so needless to say, they aren't interested in dealing with it and their customer service sucks...I love the spa, but have 2 issues:

1. Ever since I have had the spa (and this is my second one) it seems to take the heater longer to heat the water than normal (compared to my last one)...if I get in the spa when the water temp is at say 104, it will drop usually when you cut on the jets to say 102...but most of the time, I can be in the tub for 30 to 45 minutes and it won't get back to 104...

2. This is the main problem...I recently found about 6 little grey plastic inserts which look to have come out of some of the jets...I called the dealer...the 1st person said that it was because I haven't maintained the right water chemistry and they probably won't be warranteed because of it....talked to the second person who said this is normal that spa jets will deteriorate over a couple of years and that this is not covered under warranty...I bought a 5 year extended warranty that I was told covered everything but now am being told it covers nothing but the electronics....

Has anyone had these problems or has any info...

Thanks

Your jets are covered through your warranty for a period of 5 years. As long as you are within that time frame, call the factory at 260-436-9100 and they will send you out new jets free of charge! As far as the temp, no matter what spa you own, it will drop when you are in it. Kinda like a house with no roof!

Jets are covered for 5 years, does it state that on their warranty? It surprises me a bit but then again I assume Kreg is quoting this as a Master guy. It sounds like the dealer was trying to arbitrarily blame it on water chemistry and while that can be the culprit I wonder how they could tell over the phone. Sometimes the manufacturers are better about replacing things like jets than the dealers as the dealers have to in turn get reimbursed for this type of subjective failure or eat it while the manufacturer may be more apt to send you out the new ones to keep you happy and eat the cost which is smaller on their end.

As far as the temp drop of 2º, is that with the pumps on for that ½ hour? Otherwise, I'd expect it to hold temp without a problem unless it very cold and windy.

Let us know how it goes when you talk to them.

If your spa is hooked up 220 you shouldnt have any problem maintaining the temp. Some spa controls will give you an option to hook up a 220 volt control and convert it to 30 amps which will allow it to heat normally but will shut the heater down when the jet pumps are running.

If you can get a service tech out there you may want to ask them if your control has a 50/30 amp jumper on it.

Hoepfully they do take care of you but I went to their website for the heck of it and they do have a link to the warranty which is pretty clearly laid out but it doesn't mention jets, one way or the other.

http://www.masterspas.com/PDF%20Files/MasterWarrantyPlatinum.pdf

-It obviously isn't part of "Spa Surface" or "Spa Structure".

-If it was there you might think it'd be in the "Plumbing' section but that clearly states that it is covering plumbing leaks.

-The "Equipment" section clearly refers to pumps, heater and controls.

-The other sections are for things like "skirting", "Audio/Visual" etc. where it obviously wouldn't be mentioned.

It shows a last revison of 12/03 so it's probably the most recent. If the jets are covered maybe it's unoffcially. I'd still call, it's worth a shot.

It's a total non-issue! The jets are covered, without a doubt. The only thing they won't cover is the labor to go out and snap the jet back in. All your parts are covered for five years, including jets.

That's why I was wondering if he was running the pumps for that entire ½ hr. If he is then maybe it's cutting the heater out as programmed which would require upgrade to run all 3. If that isn't the case I'm not sure why it would drop 2º either unless he's talking about a windy February day in the Yukon.

That's great but is that kind of an "unofficial good will policy"? It doesn't seem to be in the warranty but that's how a few manufacturers handle it if you ask nicely.

Guys...thanks for all of the input...I will call them tomorrow and ask about the jets...as for the heater...I used to own a Catalina and it was never an issue, so this is why it is strange to me...I live in North Carolina, near the coast, so it doesn't get too cold here....an example...I can walk out to the spa and get ready to get in with the temp set at 104, and reading 104...the pumps may be off at this time...I can cut on the all three pumps and the temp will usually drop a couple of degrees within a minute or so...I can understand this, because I assume that with the water circulating, the waterfall bring water out into the air, combined with air being injected into the water it would cool it...the problem is that it then takes the tub a very long time to ever climb back up in temp...and the heater is running during this time, because as soon as the temp drops below what you have it set for, the heater light comes on flashing and then stays on while it heats the tub back up....to me though, 30 to 45 minutes just seems like a long time for this to take....Thanks for all of the help...

Generally 6-8 degrees an hour. Sounds normal any other takes on this issue?
