Ray1333 Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 If I add 2 lbs. of chlorine granular, three 3-inch tricolor tablets and one gallon of Muriatic acid for 22000 gallons of pool with alkalinity of 160 and PH of 8 what would be the result of the chemical impact after two days of operation in summer, Is t going to create some problem? waterbear Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 The main effect would be to drop the pH to the edge of the lowest safe pH and possibly a slight drop in TA. This would be from the gallon of acid, which I assume is 20 Baume (the most common concentration). The effect of the trichlor would be negligible on the pH since, while extremely acidic, is very slow dissolving. The rate that it dissolves depends on the adjustment of the feeder or floater. As far as the granular chlorine, are you referring to dichlor or cal hypo. Dichlor will slightly lower pH but will raise your CYA by about 5.5 and your FC by 6. The effect of cal hypo really depends on the strength so let's assume the standard PROFESSIONAL strength of 65% which will raise FC by 7 ppm and CH by 5. The common retail 48% will raise by about 5 and CH by about 3.5 ppm. There are other strengths of cal hypo available, the most common other strengths being 53% and 73% If I am not mistaken you are in the Los Angeles area based on your IP address so winter or summer won't really matter unless the temperature is freezing. Not really sure why you are asking this. Could you explain more and also provide water test results, which would allow us to better understand what's going on in this pool.
