Hi everyone. Please help me with my problem. See pictures for specs.

It seems as if the pump is overheating and shutting down after a few minutes.

Sometimes (not often) it hums without powering up but will run if I turn on speed 2 and then select speed 1 (which suggests a capacitor issue).

i know some of the tests you want me to do involve it being plumbed in but I now have it on the bench in front of me!

There are two capacitors and a relay where the wiring enters the pump housing. Visually, they look ok.

i can spin the motor using the fan at the dry end and it seems to spin ok.

If I disassemble the wet end to probe further, will I need a seal kit to put it back together? Or shall I take a different approach to finding a solution?

Kindest regards

Clarke

If the pump sometimes hums but runs when switched to speed 2 first, the start capacitor could definitely be weak. Even if it looks fine visually, it might not be holding charge properly. You could test it with a multimeter set to capacitance mode or just replace it since they're pretty cheap.

Since you already have the pump on the bench, checking the relay that feeds power to the motor is also a good idea it could be sticking or failing under load. As for disassembling the wet end, you might need a new seal kit depending on how it comes apart and whether the seals get damaged in the process.
