Roger Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 We got buried here, some places along the shore got 20-26 inches we only recieved about 14-18 but it snowed steady for 3 days. You digging out up there or did it get that far up. I drove to Nebraska on Thursday evening right through it for the first 6 hours, but it was amazing coming home and watching the piles get bigger and bigger and then it started to snow again as I got back to the big lake. Summers coming. Quote
Canadian Kahuna Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Yeah, we got nailed pretty good here but it could have been worse. Seemed to get areas slightly more north of us, but we were still digging out (my chiropractor must be loving this snow just before Christmas, just as i was getting better, had to shovel . . . ouch). Used to only have to do the walkway path to the street and a little to park the car. Now i gotta shovel around the deck, a path too it, path to the garage from the tub (garage is my "playpen", wood stove and closer than the door to the house). Oh, have a quick question while i'm here, see if you have any suggestions. Got the TA up in my tub where it should be, and pH is good, but since my TA is up to optimum, my bromine levels have dropped drastically. Still gotta check today as i opened up floater and threw a tablet in the filter basket, hope that works. If not, prob gotta drain the thing, right? Oh, how do i get pics in my profile? Says it's disabled, somebody i can email for permission? Quote

I would say you shouldn't have to drain as long as your water is good, you just need to make sure your bromine level is up so it will kill the nastys. Do you have a bromine base stuff or just the pucks? If you don't have a bromine base that you can add, is your floater adjustable? What was your TA before you started adjusting it, and was your PH good before? To add a photo to your profile (avatar) use the "edit avatar" on the left when you go into My Controls. Oh I see what your saying...maybe we both need to contact the admin. I can't do it either? Quote
Canadian Kahuna Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Have a bromine floater and it's adjustable, i set it a little higher and threw a puck in the filter basket. Bromine levels seem to be coming up a bit now, will have to check it in the mornin'. I'm not sure what my start values are for my TA with the city water here, i do remeber them being a little on the low side but not too bad. I've got it up now around 120ppm, and usually have to bring it back up once a week as it drops down between 40 and 60 in a week (seems to be a problem with bromine use). No problems at all with the pH, it sits right around 7.6 and is pretty stable, haven't had to adjust that very much except once where i put the TA a little on the high side, it went to about 8.0, but got it down no problem. I'm probably gonna drain my tub anyways this week since it's supposed to be fair weather, then i won't have to worry about doing it in the ugly cold of January/February . . . just waiting till after this weekend (probably having a bunch of people over for a tub after our staff christmas party, so don't want to put nice clean water in, then have everyone over). Oh, figured the pic thing out, it was the avatar i was looking for. Got mine up now . . . a good winters swim in Silver Harbour, Lake Superior (I remember that day well, -40 with the windchill, clear sky, water temp was 32F) . . . wish i had a hot tub then, but we did have a portable sauna out on the ice which was nice since i was in a wet suit (dry suit sprung a leak). Yes I change my water in late November, early December also so I can make it through to March-April also, good idea. If you need dichlor I have a couple sources that I think can ship to Canada. Or you can come down and get it in a 6 lb. tub that will last you a year or so. But maybe you should try the Bromine for this next water change to see if you can figure it out, alot of people do and like it. I never could get it to work as easy as the dichlor routine I use now. Yes Bromine has a tendency to drive down TA, I see what your doing bring it up a bit higher so it will stay in range a bit longer, I did the same thing after a while. My PH usualy went a bit high also and it to dropped slightly after a few weeks on Bromine. It may be the MPS you shock with that is also affecting your PH and TA. Do you use MPS to shock? Hey I have jumped in Lake Superior through a hole cut in the ice also.........and I will never ever do it again!!!! We have this deal here every year where a bunch of people line up and start jumping in, no wet or dry suits on just bathing suits and all kind-a funny costumes, hundreds of folks do it. They have about 10 portable hot tubs there all fired up for people to jump in after it's kinda ridiculous actualy...LOL The Polar Bear Club...hehehe Quote
