I am hoping someone here can either confirm this or deny this. I spoke with my local Sundance dealer and he told me something about the ozonator in Sundance spas. Please tell me if this is a marketing ploy or if it is indeed true. He said that Sundance spas have a special chamber where the ozone gas mixes with something and then enters the spa. He said the reason for this is because ozone gas is corrosive and without this chamber, the ozone would be introduced into the spa directly. He said that Hot Springs and Marquis spas do not have this chamber. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it true? Please clarify this for me. Thanks.

HotSpring does indeed incorporate a mixing chamber - it is called a 'contact chamber' and it is a 14 foot long section of flexible tubing which wraps around the footwell area. It is in the insulation so it stays warm and quiet, and it is standard equipment on HotSpring, Tiger River and Caldera. I am not sure about Marquis, but I think they do have some sort of mixing device.

Now, the dealer isn't exactly lying: these other companies don't use the exact same name for this device, but they do in fact have a device which is designed to help the ozone mix in with the water better and allow less ozone to reach the bather area.

Ask yourself two questions:

1. If this person is this busy (incorrectly) running down the competition, do you want to deal with them?

2. Is ozone such a big deal? There are many other considerations which will have a much larger effect on your enjoyment of the spa for years to come.

Actually, both D1 and Marquis have "contact chambers" for their ozone, as well as producing zero off-gas. There are, however tubs of lesser quality than the sundance, marquis, hot springs, and d1 which actually inject ozone into the tubs main water body producing that sweet smell of ozone. It won't really harm a human in the doses it disperses at, however, it won't be an effective sanitation method either.

Isn't D1 the only manufacturer that has 24 hour ozone? I thought the rest turn off the ozone as soon as you touch the topside

HW, After the Ozone gas mixes with this tiny, tiny amount of water that is in this mixing chamber, then where does it go? Into the large body of water in the bathing area? Because if it is only sanitizing the amount of water in the mixing chamber it will have no affect on the rest of the water in the vessel. Ozone does very very little anyway and allowing it to mix with water in tubing after the mazzi injector has done it's job of breaking the bubbles up to be very very tiny as to allow more contact between Ozone and water, then going into the vessel to also do what it can by slowly rising to the surface doesn't seem like a bad idea. Even my cheap GL has about 10 feet of tubing after the injector (I guess this would qualify as a mixing chamber) but after the gas spends its few seconds in there it is injected into the vessel to slowly float to the surface. What I am saying is I am not quit clear on any of these other methods being any different unless there is some kind of elaborate mixing chamber that swirls the water and injects it with ozone but keeps it out of the vessel as long as it takes for the 03 to pracipatate from the water and then somehow be vented offf outside the vessel.

Just trying to put this in laymans terms,

Yes, a long contact chamber is good (but most have suffiecient lenght)

No, Ozone does not somehow solve your waters sanitation needs as it just is not effective (any more than just helping between sanitizer additions) the way it is used in a Hot Tub, any Tub.

Yes, almost all manufacturers have Ozone contact chambers factory installed.

No, none are leaps and bounds above the rest, still minumal impact no matter how elaboratly pitched.

Yes, Ozone can be used to sanitize water as it is utilized in water treatment plants (multi million dollar systems)

Yes, your dealer was giving you a sale's pitch.

Please help me to understand more than I do on this anyone??? I have installed a new 03 generator on my tub as I did feel between uses along with a N2 cartridge it had an impact on my waters cleanliness but only after my sanitizer did it's job to sanitize my water.
