Nick Harrhy
I would be grateful for some advice on an issue with the main motor/pump dropping from its 2nd speed down to the idle/1st speed after 12 to 15 minutes of running. The 2nd speed then kicks backs in after 2/3 minutes and drops back down 4/5 minutes later. I guess this could be a temperature issue? Water temp is ok and constant. I have added some photos of the equipment. Grateful for any help.
Nick Harrhy
Forgot to mention, my spa is a Marquis E series that I have had from new (8 years old)

If you run it with the panel open and it still happens then it is likely going to be an internal issue with the pump. Those style of pumps with the fins that go around it are designed to dissipate heat to keep the motor cool in confined spaces. I see black stuff on the white and red wires. Is that soot? Thanks for the reply. I didn’t notice the wires had some discolouration so I will have to look at it again tonight when I am home from work. Zooming in on the photo it looks like some sort of debris. I replaced this motor in March 2021 as the 2nd speed was not working. I will try running the pumps with the cover panel removed to see if that helps. thanks again
RDspaguy
Does the other pump work as it should? For me, the first step is to isolate the issue by testing voltage to the motor while it is behaving erratically. If voltage is steady, it's in the motor. But this behavior could be a control or main power issue as well, in which case voltage will change or switch hi/low at the board. These pumps do not have a good reputation.
Nick Harrhy
Pump runs fine with the panel open. Maybe I can put some extra vents in the panel to aid the air flow and provide better cooling.
CanadianSpaTech
Pumps back to back like that blowing hot air on each other. Suggest one vent at bottom by pumps and one near top to release hot air.
