Hot tub pump won't start

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have an Aquarest hot tub. When plugged the screen will turn on, but thd pump won't start. It does a humming sound and click on the circuit board when I press the jets button. I'm fairly new to this and have limited electricity knowledge. Any idea what could be wrong? And how do I confirm it?

Thanks in advance!

Is it new, used how old? Is it (pump) seized? At the back of the motor there is a quarter sized dust cover. Remove it and you will see the shaft of the motor with a slot in it. Use a screwdriver and see if it will turn freely or if it is locked up.

Now try and spin it when the pump is humming. Might need a little kick start. If it starts it likely has a bad start capacitor (under the hump on top of the pump. One is a start cap and one is the run capacitor.

That was the issue. It started spinning the moment I turned it. Thank y'all for your help. Now let me ask you, my start up capacitor is 300VAC and 50 uf, but I cant find it anywhere. Will a 370/450 VAC work? By the measurements, it fits in the space the pump has designated for it.
