Saluspa liner leaking air behind filter housing

Recommended Posts

I have a 2021 4 person saluspa. It seems air is leaking from the liner behind the plate the filter screws into from tube c. When removing the screw holding The top of the assembly there is a little plastic valve set into the liner. The valve has three holes around the center of it that is leaking air from the liner and allowing water into the liner. Has anyone else ran into this issue or know of a fix? I'm uploading a picture of the part that is leaking the air

It's an inflatable spa, and in typical budget made-in-china fashion, there is zero concern about lifespan or serviceability of the spa after it has been purchased.  Additionally there is essentially zero quality control testing done at the factory before the unit is boxed up and shipped out.  These inflatable spas are built cheap enough so they can sell the product for a major profit, with the hope that it won't fail until after your money has cleared their bank accounts (typically, inflatable spas should last for 2-5 seasons before fully wearing out).   I've seen everything from seams bursting open after a month (causing water to fill the void between inner and outer skins), to jets sealed closed because of a misplaced seam.  Hell one woman even reported her water developed an electrical shock when she touched the water, luckily she wasn't soaking when that happened (and it should never happen if the spa was truly UL/CE certified, which they aren't - it's a forged logo to give people a false sense of security).

Sadly there is very little technical support or information available about how to service these inflatable spas.   If I were in your shoes, I would start by reaching out to the manufacture and asking for support - who knows there may be a replacement part for that item and they'll ship it to you free of charge.  However knowing Chinese factory customer service, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

If that goes nowhere, I would contact the retailer and ask for a refund or replacement - they sold you a lemon and should be responsible for replacing/refunding.  It's bad business to sell an inferior grade product, so don't feel sorry for the retailer.   If the retailer refuses because "no returns allowed on used products", call your bank and request "Chargeback" - tell them you were sold a lemon and the retailer is refusing to make it right.   The bank is on your side and will give the retailer two weeks to reply to the chargeback (explaining why they refused a refund, and "no refunds allowed" is not a valid reason to the banks) - if they don't respond with adequate documentation and in a timely manner, you will immediately win the chargeback case.

Hi I have a Saluspa Barbados pirchased in Jan 2022 had a similar failure last month. Your post was most helpful that opening goes up to a fitting above the outlet. Bestway used a incorrect material hose that cracks and breaks. Mine just crumbled when I fished it out of the liner. I'm sealing both ends with caulking and then reinflate to see if it leaks.

Hey Patrick,

did you have to replace all the hose im assuming then caulk? running into the same thing now... air is escaping liner through filter port

No I did not the hose serves no purpose it's not connected to any other hoses in the liner.

So far so good I caulked both fittings, and let dry. Air'd the liner back up and it is holding air again. Gonna let it sit dry for a few days to make sure it holds air.

So those white "hoses" are whats behind this fitting?

did you put those white hoses back in the liner, or did you just plug up the vent?

I plugged both fittings. There is no way to attach the tubing back. These fittings serve no purpose on this model liner and so the manufacturer just put tubing from the top to the bottom.

So i plugged up both the top and the bottom "holes" with this stuff a friend suggested, moldable glue

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089WHMVMZ

 https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-gear/tools/sugru-repair-review/

It worked really well!, and I've reinflated the spa (no water) to see if it holds air, so far so good.

I forgot to take pictures of how i filled the hole, but I basically took the material, rolled it into a ball about the size of the aperture, flattened the ball into a "plug" and stuffed it in (with the screw sticking out so the crew hole didn't get blocked).

I left a little bit of a flange so that when the plastic housing thing was installed back over it, there was stuff to squish and form a tight seal once the housing is tightened on top of it, you can see some of it squished out in the picture below.

for the topmost hole, it was a little trickier because part of the housing is actually inserted into the hole, but there too, as long as you leave enough material to squish flat, it should maintain an air-tight seal.

I used a garden hose washer on one of mine and does not leak.

hmmm I though I had used the garden hose gaskets too, but maybe not. The ones I used were slightly smaller and outside diameter than the inside diameter of the joiners.

I'm getting slow drops and air leaks into the system. guess I'll just re-asses.

thanks much

get some of this stuff

Sugru Moldable Glue - Multi-Purpose Glue for Creative Fixing and Making - Red, Blue & Yellow 3-Pack https://a.co/d/d23GOeY

then when you unscrew both plastic parts, stuff that into the holes such that when you put the plastic parts back on, it squeezes it and forms a bond.

I did that and it seems to have fixed the leaks.

do both top and bottom.

good luck

Thanks, ya I got some.  Mine is only 8 months old so I have a warrenty claim, will see what Bestway does to fix it before I try to 'fix it'.  Can't believe this isn't used at all, seems like a bad design flaw.
