TTait
We are replacing the breaker today. We found out that it is wired for a 20A and hooked the hot tub up to our 20A generator last night and it ran perfect so fingers crossed
TTait
I had an electrician change the 15A breaker to a 20A (I double checked and the outlet, and writing was set up for a 20A). Everything has worked great so far! Likely didn’t need the new heater however the hot tub tech wants to charge me to take it back out again so might just keep it. The electrician recommended that I shorten the cord and perhaps put in a 12 gauge cord to replace the 16 gauge cord that is currently connected. There’s a little heat coming from the cord, just a tiny bit, so will monitor it. @CanadianSpaTech @RDspaguy @cranbiz when the spa tech replaced my heater he did not connect the copper ground back up to the lug on the front of the heater. Since everything running to the hot tub and within it is grounded do I have to hook this up to the front of the heater to use the tub safely? If so what do I run the wire to? It’s currently just disconnected and sitting at the bottom of the panel box so I don’t even know what it was hooked up to
CanadianSpaTech
Is it the ground wire for the pump going from the grounding lug bar along the bottom of the heater to the pump...and yes it should be attached at both the pump and the grounding lug ends . TTait
I wonder why he didn’t connect it then? The pump is way in behind. It’ll be impossible to connect now
TTait
Is he correct or should he have to come back and connect it?
RDspaguy
7 hours ago, CanadianSpaTech said: ground wire for the pump Ground wires are green and a part of the power cord. Bonding wires are bare copper and connect independently from the power cord. Technically speaking, there is no need for bonding in a portable spa. But electrical code is vague on the requirements for a portable spa specifically, and lumps them in with inground pools and spas, which do need and must have bonding.
TTait
Thank you for clarifying @RDspaguy! I’d feel much more comfortable if he would just hook it up you all have been so helpful! Thank you @cranbiz @CanadianSpaTech @RDspaguy
