hottub.pool_boy Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 I'm sure you'll get an orientation at home once your spa arrives, but this may give you a jump start. http://scarritt.com/spasanitizing.htm Quote

Bill We owned a Marquis spa for 12 years in Alaska and loved it. After about 8 years we had a few problems with it, but I'd guess any spa will develop some problems after that much use. As I posted on another discussion thread on this forum, we put sheets of closed cell insulating board under the tub. I think it helped keep the electric bills down. Otherwise, with an ozonator, we added a small amount of chlorine after each use and cleaned the filters and emptied and washed the spa once or twice a year. That was about it. With our water in Anchorage, Ph was seldom a problem. Good luck. I'm sure you'll love your Marquis and the service the company provides. Quote

Just curious as to which dealer you used. Like someone else said, the dealer will review just about everything with you when the spa is installed. Congrats! Quote

Bill In addition to Trichlor, (or bromine), and the routine chemcials for balancing water, most people over look dihydrogenmonoxide. Personaly, I wouldn't get into my tub with out it, and I think if you really ask the pros, they'd agree. It's relativly cheap and can make all the differnce in the world. The scary part is, I don't think dihydrogen monoxide is nearly brought to the attention of new owners. (and alot of seasoned owners are mystfied by it). BUT the danger is, I've heard that many many MAJOR hot tub manufacters are now refusing warrenty work on tubs that have been run without aadequate dihydrogenmonide levels in them. You can get screwed by this. Yet it's the simplest thing in the world to do and add. Good luck. Quote
waldorbigbill Posted April 14, 2007 Author Report Posted April 14, 2007 Dear Tigger: I looked in what you said I came up with this. Dihydrogenmonoxide (DHMO) is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the danger of DHMO do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death. DHMO: is also known as hydric acid, and is the major component of acid rain, contributes to the "greenhouse effect", may cause severe burns, contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape, accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals, may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes, has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients. Contamination is reaching epidemic proportions! Quantities of DHMO have been found in almost every stream, lake and reservoir in America today. The pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. In the Midwest alone DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage. Despite the danger, DHMO is often used: as an industrial solvent and coolant, in nuclear power plants, in the production of Styrofoam, as a fire retardant, in many forms of cruel animal research, in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical, as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products. Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer! The horror must be stopped! The American government has refused to ban production, distribution, or use of the damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economical health of this nation". In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use. Are we talking about the same thing here? if we are it doesn't sound good i'm no chemist but if its the same stuff can someone please explain how it could be good? Thanks Bill Quote
Dr. Spa Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 And I though Tigger needed to get a life.............. well done Bill Quote
waldorbigbill Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 Is this something that most people put in to there tubs? I'm not knocking Tigger I just hope I brought to lite what this stuff really does I never heard of it until he brought it up. How does anyone else feel about this stuff? Thanks Bill Quote

Trigger Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Never heard of it, never used it, never will. I bet your house is full of the stuff and you don't even know it. Chemical companies add this stuff to tons of things, and because of poor labeling and federal lobbiest, it goes unreported. It's mixed in with your Car's antifreeze, your hairspray, it's a fire suppresent, but the scary thing is dihydrogenmonixide is also in your mouthwash, I've seen soda reeking of the stuff, and I've even seen it in Baby food. BABY FOOD. BUT...if used correctly dihydrogen monoxide can significantly enhance the hot tub. I've seen it firtst hand. the difererance - if done correctly- is night and day. Quote
waterbear Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 IMHO, it is a NECESSARY CHEMICAL in ANY pool or hot tub. Personally I love the stuff. I even put it into my bathtub! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try this link for a discussion of DHMO that happened on another pool forum for some insight! Quote

They even put it in BaBY Food, Please explain to me if this stuff is like that then how can you willing put the stuff in your tub risking your health along with family I don't care how good it work doesn't mean I would ever stick my child at risk to have a cleaner spa. Thanks Bill Bill, I'm just having fun with you. Dihydrogenmonoxide, let's break it down (Remember 5th grade chemistry?) hydrogen is represented by the letter "H" and Oxides are Oxygen ("O") So a Di hydrogen = 2 hydrogen molecules and monoxide is a fancy way of saying one oxygen molecule, or in other words.... H20. thanks for being a good sport! Quote
waldorbigbill Posted April 19, 2007 Author Report Posted April 19, 2007 Tigger must people would say I knew that. But I can say I didn't in my rush putting up what I found I didn't study it enough if the brain cells kick in I would have figure out it's water. Good One I guess thats my welcome to the board. Thanks Bill Quote
