Sandlotje
I'm having trouble finding the answer to this... Pool/spa pumps are powered via an electrical cord that enters the pump through a rear cover to a terminal board, where the hot, neutral, and ground wire are connected (sometimes a fourth wire for 2-speed pumps). So far, so good. However, both my current AND previous pump had a grounding terminal on the exterior housing of the electrical motor and I am wondering: 1. Is it necessary to connect a wire to this terminal? 2. If so, how do I determine the gauge of the wire that should be used? I believe the pump can draw 9.4 amps, max. Would this be 14-gauge or thicker? 3. Where would the other end of this wire connect to?
RDspaguy
That is not a ground it is a bond and should have a wire connecting all electrical components that contact water as well as the pool grid. https://blog.hayward-pool.com/maintenance/electrical-bonding-grounding/
