Sam12345
My hot tub is arriving in a few weeks. After previously assuming my patio was level, I have now discovered it has a 17mm slope across the width of the tub (2.2m). the supplier recommended a minimum of 5-10mm slope and has therefore suggested putting a base in to ensure their warranty isn’t invalidated. Seems a lot of trouble to go through for a minor slope but I’ve never owned a hot tub before. Any recommendations? Would it be very noticeable on the water level? many thanks! sam
cranbiz
5/8" over about 7.25' for us English unit people. That's really not much. Where any issues would be is if the water level would be below the filter when filled. Somehow, I don't see that being a problem. If you do have to fix it, a quick way is to build a quick frame around the final resting place of the tub and mix up some self leveling cement. I used the Mapei cement found in the flooring section of Lowes. $30 USD for a #50 lb bag, which covers 48 sq-ft at 1/8" thickness and one qt of primer, $12 which should cover the entire surface to be leveled. My slope was a lot worse, close to 2" over 9' and I was leveling a 80"x108" pad, I'm pretty sure I used 3 bags of cement and 1 qt of primer. Mix it to a pourable consistency, pour it in and let it set for 24 hours. It's really quick and easy. Just make sure your frame is sealed to prevent it leaking thru. A bead of caulk will take care of that. 1
funky_duck1066
Cranbiz curious how this turned out. I have about a 1.75 in (44mm) slope over the length of my tub that I feel needs corrected. Did you permanently add a section of "corrected" self leveling cement to an existing patio, only large enough for the tub? I'm wondering if plastic could be placed underneath so you are effectivley creating a large cement shim. Pics would be great, thanks. cranbiz
This is an enclosed patio with a terra cotta mosaic surface. The entire floor is sloped 2.75" over 12'. I permanently affixed the mine to the slab. Filled the large areas with quickrete and then after that set, primed and poured the self leveling cement. I make the correction slightly larger than the published footprint of the tub. The difference between the existing patio and the new, leveled pad I used Grout to ease the angle and prevent stubbing your toes and built a trex deck section at the end where we will enter and exit the tub. You could use a thick plastic, I'm sure to keep from permanently bonding to the existing surface. I suspect the downward friction would keep it in place. With any luck, by next weekend, my tub will be here and installed.
