Jordan Hawkins
Hi .. so I have this old hot tub that has been given to me and when I pulled out the filter to find details to replace it and I seen this black latch attached to the bit of plastic that goes into the middle of the filter ( I think it's to hold it in place ) we'll this latch is on a spring so it stays shut unless opened which is very fiddly to do and I can't see how it opens with a filter in place... any ideas what it's for ??? I can't find any info through Google Attached photo .. if u look inside the small hole u can just about see it
CanadianSpaTech
It opens/closes when the pump goes into hi/low speed. In low it is closed to draw water through the filter when it goes into hi speed the flapper opens to suck water for the pump not only through the filter but also the round suctions in the foot well to supply the pump with water. 1

CanadianSpaTech
It is spring loaded and the pump sucks it open when you put the #1 pump into hi speed and it needs more water to circulate through the system. If it was not there you would have poor filtration.
