Hydrostatic valve leak help

In October we had our 16x32 in ground liner pool winterized. I pulled back the corner of our pool cover to see that there was only about two feet of water in the deep end. Obvious major leak. To keep the pipes safe from freezing, I filled the pool to about 24” deep in the shallow end. It again leaked out very quickly(2 weeks) to about the level of the start of the slope to the deep end, then slowed way down, and only leaked about another foot in the last 6 weeks. My question is this. Could this be a hydrostatic valve leak, and it leaked to almost empty in October because the water table was low, and the water table has risen now, causing it to slow the leak, or stabilize with the current water table? Thanks in advanced for any information.
