Sundance Optima 880 - Wont run, Open Flow Switch error

Hi there, first time hot tub owners.  Just bought a 2019 Sundance Optima 880 used.  Had it delivered this week and hooked up to power.  Flipped the breaker and we got the error message "The flow switch is open.  The heater is disabled.  The circ pump's filter is dirty, or an air lock has occurred at the pump intake. Refer to owner's manual for additional information."

Nothing comes on except the display.  We cannot turn on lights, jets, or anything else.  Have tried to purge any air out through draining out some water, and also using the garden hose to force water into the system to purge the air.  But when we turn the breaker on nothing happens.  We are pulling our hair out over here!  Help!!

Open up the panel and have a look at the flow switch. Is the toggle pushing up against the post. The flow switch housing is clear so you should be able to see into it. If it is not up against the post there is no flow from the circulation pump. Have a look at the 3/4" line going into the face circulation pump...do you see any air bubbles? Put your hand on the circulation pump at start up (turning power on) do you feel it vibrate?

Did you see the spa running before you bought it?

One way the bleed air from a Sundance/Jacuzzi circ pump/heater tube... there is a small allen key plug on the heater housing (see attached photo...By the white grease pen writing) Sometimes it will have a 1/4" plug or might even have 3/8" nipple and a 3/8" line coming off of the nipple. Back the plug out a couple of turns until you get water dripping out and hopefully the air as well.

You sound very confident for a new spa owner. What makes you so sure? Did you fill through the filter well?

If it's new then it's under warranty, call the dealer if you're sure it's not an airlock.

20 Year Pool owner and Marine Engineer...yes filter well fill and decoupled both pump unions and immediately got water with no air. Tried the hose directly in the filter suction "trick" as well...The fact that only the panel display and one LED lights up and none of the other various LEDs inside or outside light up leads me to believe i have a bad motherboard or some other electrical gremlin that only the service tech will know about...was hoping OP had a solution.

OP ever get a diagnoses? These are exact symptoms we have; power to LCD/exterior front panel light, but, no other lights work and Flow Switch open error.

I see. Your issue is NOT the same as the OP, who had an air lock resulting in a "flo" error on the display. You have no display, or air lock for that matter. You should start a new thread about your issue.

If you have nothing on the display it is most definitely a power issue. Check incoming power and fuses in the controls. Check wiring for damage, especially topside cords. Check transformer voltages.

Is this spa new from the dealer, or used but new to you? All of these things, except an air lock or improper wiring, are warranty issues on a new spa.

Just saw a message that said "Closed Flow Switch", then goes on to tell us to contact service organization. Our service dept is closed on the weekend. The temperatures have been unusually cold. Don't want to turn it off and freeze, also don't want to burn the heater up. Next move?
