Waterlogged Hot Spring Envoy Remote

My Hot Spring Envoy remote seems to be filled with water. The touch screen is really unreliable. I can sometimes activate it but more times than not it just doesn’t react. Is there a way to open it, dry it out and reseal it? You can see air pockets in the photo.

I’m shocked. I was just quoted $1000 to have the remote replaced along with a firmware upgrade. If I had known that I would have dealt with it when I first noticed moisture inside. That was well within the warranty period. Time to start thinking of this like an old car. Don’t want to deal with surprise $1K repairs. Water level is down a couple of inches too. Could be developing a leak. 😞

I'm guessing 20-25% of that is for the service call and labor to come out and do it.  The remote should run you $600-$700 and if it wasn't for needing a software update you could just buy the remote and pair it yourself.

What do I need to do the software update myself? I’m a software engineer and I do firmware updates on various devices all the time. I have JTAG probes, serial adapters, etc. Is the information that I need proprietary?

Update: Based on information that I read in another topic I was able to reset the remote by holding my finger on the screen for five seconds. It rebooted and became functional again. I wished the dealer had told me this. The display is still obviously filled with condensation though.

All you need to update the software is a flash drive and the software files.  It's pretty simple to update the software and set the jumper settings.  The software is proprietary so your dealer will need to provide you with the files and directions or if they won't, you can pm me your email and I can send you files and directions.
