rmcderm313
Hi All, I just filled my hot tub (700 Gal)with fresh water. I'm planning on using the dichlor/bleach method. I tested the TA, pH and CH as follows (with the Taylor K2006 kit): TA = 60 ppm pH = 7.6 CH = 70 ppm I added 3.1 oz calcium chloride and then 3 oz. of sodium bicarbonate to raise the TA and CH respectively. After a few hours I tested again: TA = 80 ppm (right where I want it I think) pH = 8.0 (too high) Acid demand = 1 drop CH = 120 ppm (sufficient, I think) I've tried to lower my pH back down by adding 1/2 oz of Sodium Bisulfate. After an hour pH is still testing at 8.0. I just added another 1/2 oz. and will test again after running pumps for 15 minutes (recommended on the package). Did I try to hard to get the CH and TA in check? Should I have left them where they were? I haven't added any dichlor yet. Should I wait until my pH is good before adding sanitizer? or do I need to get some sanitizer in the tub ASAP? No one is using the tub until my chemicals are good. Any advice on getting back to a good TA-pH,CH is appreciated. Thanks, Rob
rmcderm313
The second addition of Sodium Bisulfate also did not reduce pH. In fact I think the color is a bit 'redder' in this test. Help! Rob
rmcderm313
I added 1.7oz of Dichlor and my pH fell back to between 7.4 and 7.6. For right now I'm good. When I test for Chlorine demand in 24 hours, I'll check for pH again to see how things are. Rob
