lensam69
Hello! I installed a Pentair IntelliConnect controller today. I wired up the main pump (Intelliflo) and SWCG (IntelliChlor) via RS-485 cable + dedicated power supplies, as well as a booster pump to the first relay. Everything peachy so far. Next up, I was going to wire a MasterTemp HD400 to the "Heater" relay on the controller. I followed these instructions: (Page 30) Basically, I cut the fireman's switch jumper cable, and "extended" it into the controller's Heater relay, so that it would close the circuit. As far as I can tell, that's the right way to do it, but the controller wouldn't turn on the heater. I restored the jumper cable, and now the heater does not turn on at all. (There is power going to it, which leads me to believe I somehow fried the logic board). Is this the right way to set up the controller? Did I miss anything obvious? (Any help would be appreciated so that I don't end up killing another board once I replace it)
RDspaguy
I am no heater expert, but did you try it before wiring to the controller? Did you have the pump running when you tried it? Your heater may not show a display without pressure at the pressure switch. @Pool Clown, do you have any suggestions?
lensam69
@RDspaguy It's not a new heater. It's been running well for over a year in manual mode. I just decided to upgrade my old intermatics to a new controller system.
RDspaguy
Gotcha. I am not a pool heater pro, but I notified a good pool guy who should answer shortly. From what I can see in the manual and based on your description it would seem you wired it correctly. I am at a loss as to why it would have damaged anything. lensam69
Thanks! I’ll wait. I’ve been racking my brains on this. The only thing I can think of, is that I ran the controller cable alongside the 240v power lines, and that might’ve induced a bit of current on it, maybe enough to damage the board. Other than that, I’m at a loss.
RDspaguy
That is a theoretical possibility. But I have never seen wire routing be an issue on a pool pad, and I have done many new pads and run my wiring very neat and clean. It is nice to run into someone who understands induction, however. I am guessing you are an electrician?
Pool Clown
Show exactly where you connected the heater wires at the Intelliconnect.
