RDspaguy
@Ahhsomeguy, @dlleno, any idea?
Rob1984qp
I've been reading some other discussions and it seems fine so long as your bromine levels are lower as I've raised to 50ppm as per something I read from @dlleno or @Ahhsomeguy. I've got a huge amount out of the tub. Just letting it run with the cover for a few more hours. If the bromine ppm is still too high I'll leave it to drain overnight but making sure I get rid of the excess from the waterline.
Rob1984qp
Dumping the water. Thank god I'm not on a water meter 🙂
RDspaguy
Whater is cheaper than sanitizer everywhere.

Rob1984qp
Question, can you balance your water while its still heating? Or is it a struggle as materials won't disolve
Rob1984qp
Heating on 🙂
RDspaguy
You can balance at any temp above freezing.
Rob1984qp
Awesome. Ive just added in some calcium so ill commence the balancing act. With the dichlor application am I best to wait for the temperature to rise or is that all good to apply once I'm happy with the balancing act? Cheers
RDspaguy
All good, just run the jets and spread it around.
Rob1984qp
Groovy. Appreciated as always sir. I'll balance, allow 3-4hours then check the balance and then hopefully get some dichlor into it. Cheers

Rob1984qp
I see adding calcium pushes your TA up. Last fill my TA was low so I had to increase now the opposite way. I've completely applied my calcium to get it to as near 180 as I can. Going to let it settle for 1hour to let the calcium settle and allow the ph to drop back down and retest ph, TA and calcium. Hopefully then I can finalise the balance with a view to dosing with dichlor later today. Fun fun fun... Time for a cup of tea 🙂
Rob1984qp
Tea break over. Just added some PH- boosted the jets to get TA down and PH back up. Just added some more calcium which should get my numbers up. What do you aim for on your setup for your ph, ta,ch and cya? 🙂
Rob1984qp
Oops, sort of had the utility set to chlorine and applied far too much dichlor. Good job I don't plan to go in for a few days lol. Will check tomorrow AM to see if i can gain a reading as my scuba doesnt go above 13.5. If its reading ill start my decay clock from the time of reading and allow 24hours.
Rob1984qp
Just tested. Still to high for my scuba ii tester so obviously above 13.5. Off out for the day so happy it will be above the requirements.
Rob1984qp
Just back, still showing high which is above 13.5ppm so good sign on a slower decay rate. Hopefully tomorrow I can gain some kind of reading, possibly day after
Rob1984qp
Latest results. Things look nice and settled 🙂 I'll keep the lid off and expose it to the sun tomorrow for a few hours to help burn off (yes, thats correct, sun in the UK lol)
Rob1984qp
Commencing the clock. Have just gained a reading of 9.6ppm bromine at 9.19am GMT. Burnoff feels a lot slower than last time for sure, but still wondering if its too quick atleast 3.9 appears to have burned off in 10hours. RDspaguy
Do you have ozone?
Rob1984qp
Nope. No ozone, no UV
RDspaguy
Then that seems rather high bromine loss to me also.
Rob1984qp
Aye, i have a timer set for 21.19 tonight to check 12hours later since this AM, fingers crossed I guess. Might need some more ahh-some treatment on next drain potentially. I'll get my CYA up, switch to bleach and then coincide it with the bromine tablets in slow dispenser for a few weeks should it be burning off too quick. At least I'm in a good place now i feel anyway. I'd like to get one of those mineral dispensers in my filter but the nature 2 is not recommended on the bromine setup and I'm not sure if the frog ones will fit in my filter. RDspaguy
Bromine does not need cya. The presence of chlorine beyond what is used to oxidize the bromides will confuse your readings, as you are testing both chlorine and bromine simultaneously. Nature2 is compatible with bromine, and is no different than spa frog.
Rob1984qp
I want 30ppm CYA for the bleach method no? I'm getting CYA through my dichlor doses. Reading the instruction from Nature2 they say they don't recommend usage with bromine products? nature2spa-manual (1).pdf
