Coast spa pump 2 replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My coast spa pump 2 dies on me this week, it has been more than 10 years. I replaced the capacitor but still not working.

It starts up for a second and stop. I think it is time to replace a new pump motor.

I attached the label of the pump here. I can not find the exact pump, can I use a comparable pump, and thank you in advance to send me a link of one.

Your choice. The new motor will not have the endcap that attaches to the vent hose, but you shouldn't need it. If you find it causes a problem there are solutions, just let us know.

Sorry, I updated my previous question before seeing your post, could this one work? I would like to match 5HP with the original one. Thanks.

NO...The wet end is 2 1/2 x 2" PLEASE VERIFY. https://www.spadepot.com/5-HP-Spa-Pump-25-in20-out-Side-Discharge-56-Frame-240V-P9413C690.aspx

The foot pad of the pump will be different. You will likely only be able to get the front 2 openings bolted into place and the back 2 you will have to make something up out of wood to support the back 2 openings. The wiring connections will also have to be modified with spade connectors and a fork connector for the ground wire to attach. Make sure to note the high and low speed wires before removing them from the yellow pump. If when you restart the spa and it starts in high speed and not low speed you will have to switch the red and black around either in the pack/circuit board or at the back of the pump. As @RDspaguy mentioned the vent hose won't work and the wet end will have to be rotated.

I know I'm late to the party, but that is a legit 5HP pump.  The yellow pumps were 5HP and red pumps were 7HP and I'm pretty sure they can only be purchased direct from Coast or a Coast Spa retailer.

The replacement actually has a higher amp draw on both hi and low...both have waterway wet ends 2.5 down to 2".

There was a recall on the Franklin pumps made between 2002 and 2004. If you had one they will send you a new one... https://impeller.net/magazin/coast-spas-and-franklin-electric-co-recall-coast-spas-due-to-fire-hazard/

Let us know how it goes, we love happy endings.

hooking up the back side was a heck of pain! but finally got the new pump installed, no leak! and running well. Thank you guys for giving me the confident to do it.
Btw, the pump cable jacks to the main board are loose, no matter how hard i push in, they are not pushed in all the way, any advice? Thank you.

If you think it is going to be an issue you could always bypass the plugs and wire the pump cord directly onto the circuit board. Just cut the pump wire male plug and crimp on some female spade connectors onto the wire and attach them directly onto the board and remove the female end wires.
