Idiot
When setting up my lazy spa I accidentally used baking powder instead of bicarbonate of soda to raise the alkalinity. Obviously it didn’t work very well, will the cream of tartar in the baking powder react with the chlorine when I add it? Should I just empty it and start again? Will the cream of tartar affect the filter, pump etc?
RDspaguy
🤣 25 years in this business, I thought I had heard it all. You gave me a good laugh in these troubled times, and I thank you for that. How much did you use? I would think a good shock will take care of it. @CanadianSpaTech, @dlleno, what do you guys think. 1
Idiot
My spa is only 935 litres, I was attempting! To raise the TA by 80ppm, so used 104gms, which listed it about 30ppm. idiot!! I’m not a chemistry teacher but I know chlorine can produce quite stunning reactions added to the wrong stuff. not sure if the acidic cream of tartar is the wrong stuff, not really looking to blow the roof off my spa house or have a chemical peel either. should I just start again to be on the safe side.? 🤪🤪🤪
RDspaguy
If you are worried, change it. I am confident that the ph decreaser used in spas is much more acidic than cream of tartar, and safe to use with chlorine. I wouldn't mix them up in a bucket or anything, but in your water it will be fine.

dlleno
This is a good one! I think the measure of success here is the ability to restore balanced, clear water. if you find yourself struggling then change your water
