Lions, tigers and bears
Hello, My hot tub is checked regularly for water chemistry and always pretty close to where it should be. Where I fell down was the non shock chlorine regime. I would do it when I remembered but not often enough. I have noticed a black sponge like material, on some of the led lit jets. I clean it out as best I can physically but it comes back after a few months. Is there something I can use to clean the pipework deeper than normal. I have used swirl away a few times. RDspaguy
Black sponge-like material? Can you post a pic? How hard is it to clean off? Please detail your chemical maintenance routine.
Lions, tigers and bears
Use test strips daily. Add chemicals to keep within parameters of test strip. Chlorine scoop after every use. Ph plus or ph minus as needed. Filter rinsed once week/ non shock chlorine every 2 weeks. Drained and cleaned as per reminders on Spa. Cleans out easily enough. RDspaguy
That does not look organic to me. In 25 years in this business, I have never seen anything like it. @CanadianSpaTech, @castletonia, you guys ever see anything like this? CanadianSpaTech
I will have nightmares tonight. WTF is that? I would be using an inspection camera in the plumbing. Use Ahh-Some to purge plumbing. Personally I would confirm exactly what that is before using again.
castletonia
What brand of hot tub is this? Years ago when I sold Saratoga Spas, they had a material like this inside some baffles in the filter compartment. Whatever that is, doesn't look like it formed in the hot tub and if it did, you need to add enough chlorine to cleanse an ocean.
RDspaguy
It does resemble a deteriorated foam, doesn't it? I too would like to know the brand and age. How long have you had it? Your post said "on some of the led lit jets". Is it on them, or inside the jet nozzle?
Lions, tigers and bears
Had the tub a few years. Wellis. It is inside the jet nozzle. I did think maybe it was some kind of filter material at first, that had moved but it came back after cleaning? Is there anything I can use to deep clean pipes? Thanks. RDspaguy
Nothing that will clean whatever that stuff is. Put a flame to it, does it melt? I think you've got something in the pipes, maybe even in the heater, that is coming apart or melting. Are the jets that it appears in the same ones all the time?
