Tommc72
Hi, I am planning on installing a new SWG to my system and have a question about wiring. I currently have a time clock running of of my breaker box. The time clock then runs to a service disconnect which then runs to my heater and pump. My question is can I add the SWG as a third piece of equipment into the service disconnect? I wasn’t sure if there is a maximum amount of lines that can be attached or if it is just a max amount of amps that can be handled. thanks in advance for any help. RDspaguy
Technically, it is both. Exceeding the amp rating will trip the breaker. But NEC (national electrical code) says you can only have one wire in a terminal, and cannot have wire splices (wire nuts) inside of a disconnect box. It sounds like you have already violated that code. The risk is poor connection in the terminal leading to a fire. To bring it to code you should mount a weatherproof junction box for your splices. Technicalities aside, so long as your combined components do not exceed the amp rating of the circuit breaker and wire, you should be fine.
