miketunes
I just bought a 145 gallon inflatable hot tub along with a Taylor test kit. I'm following the instructions to balance the water, but maybe I'm missing something? First I balanced the TA with baking soda to 120. My pH was 8.0, so I've been using Leisure Time's Spa down (sodium bisulfate) to try to bring it down. The Taylor kit says I should need 10 grams to bring to to 7.4. It says to run it with the bubbler and test after, and repeat. Well I've been doing that over and over for days now and it's stuck at 8.0. I've added about 150 grams now, and still at 8.0. I did briefly get it to 7.6 by only running the bubbler for 5 minutes instead of 30min. Should I increase the amount of spa down I'm using, seems really strange that I've add 15x what's needed and it's still not enough. Pool calculator recommends about the same dosage. They said to do it gradually, so I've been waiting at least 30 minutes between applications. miketunes
Updated dosage to 20 grams per load, still stuck at 8.0. Is there a maximum amount I can add at once? Maybe I should just double the amount each time until it starts to go down?
miketunes
Chatted with Leisure time, apparently circulate doesn't mean turn on the bubbler, it just means the pump. Sounds like maybe I need Proteam Spa Gentle to keep it locked?
castletonia
What is your Total Alkalinity? If your alkalinity is high it will continue to drag the pH back up. Remember, pH rises with aeration, so anytime the jets and/or an airblower are turned on, you are technically aerating the water, gradually causing the pH to rise. ProTeam Gentle Spa, which adds borates to the water, can help stabilize the pH, but unless you have either balanced or low alkalinity, the pH will continue to drift.
