Gel Coat Issues Barrier Reef Pools

I will say that, as a regular contributor on multiple pool and spa forums, I have not seen another thread with so many complaints about the same issue from the same manufacturer. Except perhaps inflatable hot tubs from China. If you are serious about this, you might start threads on other pool and spa forums, I'm sure there are others out there.

There is complaints everywhere. All over the internet. I just typed in problems with brp , and it was like 20 that showed up.

Since I filed their website has changed completely. Can't even post nothing anymore. I never did , and this is the first time I have spoke of it to anyone. Didn't realize there is that many issues with there pools out there either.

we have pool water records monthly since installed in 2019. i cant understand if you follow there recommendations then the warranty is valid.

who do you speak to at BRP?

have you seen a solicitor to help resolve the issue? if not maybe a class action is necessary

we tried to get ours fixed but they are not interested. They shift the blame to the maintenance of the pools water.

So, they are saying it's scale? Get some muriatic acid and mix 50/50 with water in a spray bottle. Spray a spot and scrub with a plastic bristle brush repeatedly (wear goggles). If there is no visible change after 10 minutes of this, it is not scale.

Excessive sanitizer levels can bleach out acrylic but it takes many years and you would have multiple equipment issues in the meantime. Unless the issue is just in one spot, where you always add your chemicals.

I have white staining on the walls of my two and a half yo  BRP, not sure about the rest of the pool as it's only noticeable when the water level drops. Reported to BRP who wanted all the monthly test reports as stated in the warranty otherwise it will be voided, which is BS according to my local pool shop who had a client win a claim for white staining with them, although they are appealing apparently. My last contact with BRP said they'd sent my reports to the gelcoat specialist. As I don't have my pool tested every month I'm sure they will be blaming me. I advised them I don't test during winter as I winterise my pool with a floater and turn off my chlorinator, also during heavy rain which we get plenty of, I won't test till its over as you're just washing the chemicals down the drain, this didn't seem to make any dfference to them.

I'll have to wait for them to get back to me before I take it further

If you only test monthly you are destroying your pool. You should test weekly at least, if not more. Keep your own records.

Again, white discoloration can be scale, the result of high ph and calcium, and is limestone formation on the surface. This is harder than the acrylic, and must be dissolved off with acid. It is common to accumulate near and above the water line. Pool currents can cause certain spots to accumulate more than others. It is easy to determine if it is scale, and you cannot sue for your poor water chemistry.

Over time, high sanitizer levels can also bleach out (cloud) the acrylic, but this usually takes many years of bad chemistry.

I'd recommend you all try the acid wash to verify that it's not scale. Unfortunately, many pool issues come down to poor chemistry. And everyone THINKS they do a good job, but very few people actually do.

Not sure why it's sideways, but here is a spa I am refurbishing. You can see the scale here above the water line.

Here is the same corner (with headrest fixed) after acid wash. No more scale.

So please give me an example of high pH/calcium for a F/G pool.

I previously owned a new pool for 8 years, treated the same as my BR, no problems at all with white stains.

I have my pool tested my a local pool shop. They say I’ve never had a spike in the chemical balancing.
