Gel Coat Issues Barrier Reef Pools

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We installed a Barrier Reef Pools October 2016, within 12 months notices white spots on floor, shell colour coming off along with going white just above water line

I am having no luck getting warranty, wont return calls or emails and agent that sold the pool says not his problem,

Pool has been maintained each month by pool cleaner and water samples taken and recorded, pool cover on when not in use.

Looking to find other people with the same issue with Barrier Reef Pools to find out if you got warranty or if you made a claim with Office of Fair Trading.

Looking at getting people on board to have Barrier Reef Pools investigated for selling pools they know have gel coat faults.

I don't have a ton experience with selling fiberglass pools. But what I have seen and read. Most companies now have lifetime warranties on the delame of the fiberglass or gelcoat. Also the builder should be responsible because he is the face of that brand he is installing. If there is a failure of the product under the manufacture warranty then he would be also the company to fix it. Typical warranties for plastered pools and range from 5- 10 years in the case the plaster was to fall off or something. I understand that chemicals can play a part in the surface of fiberglass pools I would also have a conversation with your pool maintenance guy. He could be doing something he is not suppose to do like leave chemicals sitting on the bottom of the pool.

Have you contacted the factory directly to voice your concern or maybe find another dealer to get feed back that sells them. You do have a leg to stand on here. I would collect up your water tests results since you have had it. The water quality is the first thing they are going to hit you with.

Good Luck

Linda McGrath,

I installed a Barrier Reef Pool September 2016, within 12 months noticed white areas on the floor... one area actually looked like a huge hand. Waves appearing on the blue walls and above the waterline going white.  I took photos and asked Barrier Reef,  a pool service technician and 2 different pool shop technicians, no one could advise what was causing the deterioration of the gelcoat.

Where are you located and what is your pool shell number?

I have obtained an independent Fibreglass and Pool Specialists report on my pool and am currently going through the process with NCAT.

All things being equal I am hopeful for a positive outcome.

We installed in July 2016 and have had the same issue of the whitening of the gelcoat. Have spoken to Barrier Reef on multiple occasions and still no resolution. We have tried acid scrub with kitchen scourer (on a section) and also an expensive chemical treatment. We still have the discolouration. Yes, i could use 1200 wet and dry to remove. This will damage the gelcoat only more.

Regards

Ian McCracken

I am having exactly the same issues. Fiberglass pool was installed in 2015 and now it went from blue to white within 2 weeks. I am having pool service from the first day so the water was always balanced.  Barrier Reed doesn't reply to warranty claims.  I am thinking about contacting an attorney to file a law suite.  Did you guys get anywhere with your claims? I am in Pennsylvania.

We are in Perth and our pool is 9 months old and looks like its about 30 years old. Gel coat has faded, shocking white line at the water level. We have used a barrier reef recommended pool cleaning guy since it was installed.

Be interesting to see what they say as they have said to the cleaning guy they think its a calcium build up and it isn't faded. Yet they haven't even been out.

Been quoted $7000 to replace the gel coating

How old is your pool? It’s the damage quite bad?

It is so extremely frustrating that there is a serous problem with their product and they just put all the blame back on their customers!!
