Susanj
Has anyone tried the new Smartchlor system? Looking to get some feedback on it.
wish2fish
I have tried the smartchlor @ease (round ball). It worked great for me but is way more expensive that using tablets or granular. It did eliminate my skin irritation that I get during the winter.
Susanj
Thank you. For us , the benefit may outweigh the cost as it’s a vacation rental and may give us peace of mind that the sanitizer level is being maintained well when our guests are there for three days or a week or whatever. I'm might still worry about heavy bathing load. During the winter it was just me 2-3 days a week.
Susanj
As it was explained to me, it’s supposed to know and release the amount of chlorine needed, no matter the bather load. I am just starting to research this and don’t know the difference between the 2 options you mentioned.
Susanj
I just found more info on some other message boards. It was explained that the "smart" system would know when and how much chlorine to add. But I see now it won't work since there is a setting. And we might have 2 guests or 7 and some may have kids and use it heavily and others not.
wish2fish
I will tell you also, the cartridges do not last a month.
Susanj
The salesperson told me there are 3 chlorine cartridges and they each last 3-4 weeks.

Cusser
Ever look into adding an external in-line chlorine or bromine unit (I've considered that for my above ground pool). Less than $100 from suppliers like Doheny's. https://www.doheny.com/doheny-automatic-chlorinator-brominator-above-ground-in-line
Susanj
Never heard of that. But while it may be less expensive than SmartChlor, I see that like that system, it doesn't know how much to add-you have a setting, and the problem is, ours is in a vacation rental and doesn't get consistent use. Not just from summer to winter, but day to day.
