My hot tub is only about 3 years old and the seats and walls have a sticky substance on them since the end of last summer, not slimy or oily but sticky. We have cleaned it and drained it multiple times and changed the filter. My husband swears it is a result of kids accidentally knocking over a huge carton of Goldfish crackers at the end of last summer. Could it be?? Any off the above can cause issues in what is basically a bathtub that doesn't get drained. Have you considered a "purge"? More than just a drain, this process scrubs the pipes and releases the source of contamination.
