Reeser
We have a Jacuzzi 355 hot tub and this is the first cold season so have a question about the heater. what is happening lately, is the hot tub is set at 101 degrees, and is designed to turn on when gets down 2 degrees below set point so will turn on when down to 99. Its also wired for 60 amp and jumpers are set correctly so in theory, we can have the heater on when both jet pumps are on. We live in Southern California and lately with temps down to 51 (not that cold) and Santa Ana winds blowing at night the heater has not been able to keep the temps up, and this is only with one jet pump running. we were in the other night and the temp was 51 outside and real windy. the tub normally dropped to 99 where the heater came on but the whole time we were in it never could get it above 99, then the next morning same thing, we covered the hot tub over night so it was back up to 101 but when we got in, it would cool to 99 (only one jet on) then the heater came on and it kept cooling down, finally long after we got out but kept the jet going it went down to 95 (heater still on) when we covered it back up. So my question is how do we check if the heater is working properly and is this something that is normal? Ive been in portable hot tubs in the snow and they could keep the temp up. Thanks! James. Cusser
1. Must keep the cover on when not in use. 2. If your hot tub is 110 volts, likely won't supply enough heat to warm up while you're in it because cover is off. 3. If the heater is able to supply heat, then it's working; possibly the controls/safety has an issue. 4. Sounds like a new unit if this is first winter - contact the manufacturer. Jacuzzi has been in this business a long time, should know what's going on, and should be covered by warranty if a malfunction.
Jersey Hot Tub Repair
It may be your heater is not coming on at all. The temperature increase could be pump friction, although I've never seen pump friction get up to 101 degrees with 51 degree temperatures. Does your hot tub have an air blower? If so, it is sucking cold air in through the bottom of the tub and blowing it into the water, causing it to cool down. It is essentially like an air conditioner for your water. To test the heater, you need an amp meter. You should see somewhere around 15 AMPS with the heater drawing. If the electrical meter on your house is the older type with the spinning disk, the disk will move noticeably faster when the hot tub heater is on. As Cusser said, if this is under warranty, get Jacuzzi to come out and take care of it.
