De Filter Vacuum Problems

Hi there everyone, I just joined the forum and first time pool owner. My wife and I bought a house in Jan that has an above ground pool. We opened it up on Memorial day and we've been working on getting it set up and the right chemicals in and such. We have a DE Filter and it's working fine however whenever I put in the vacuum accessory into the filter we lose all pressure in the filter and I can't get any suction to get the vacuum to even work. We're trying our hardest to not call someone out, I found the forum hoping someone can help us out. We're pool newbie so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

Does the sight-glass/window on the pump have a bunch of bubbles and air when the vacuum is attached, vs when the filter is running normally?

I'm very new at this, so I take it you mean the (for lack of a better term) big cup sized thing? Has a clear top to where you can see water in it? When the filter is running without the vacuum yes it has bubbles and water in it. It still kinda does when you put the attachment on however if the pressure is up, when you put on the attachment it kills the pressure immediately.

Seems like different behavior to my own, perhaps it's a different vacuum system ... do you know what make/model the vacuum is?

How does the vacuum work (as far as you can tell)? Is it the kind you plug into the skimmer and works from suction? (eg, Baracuda, Kreepy Krauly)

When was the last time the filter cartridge was cleaned? How old is the filter/cartridge itself?

I just changed the cartridge cells in my filter and it now blows out of the return harder than ever!

It also has happened to me when the basket in the pump was clogged with debris. Clean that out and do a backwash and try again. If that doesn't work, maybe clean or replace the filter cartridge. It's very easy..

Yes, I agree with Ron. I faced this issue one month ago. Then I check all possible solutions and found problems in the filter cartridge. I replace the cartridge, but my problem doesn't solve. Then I contact vacuum specialist, and he says my vacuum hose is clogged. Now, all problems are fixed, and my pool vacuum is working. For more details click here: http://bit.ly/2xWOX3m
